Whats the score with this

Post by e4ans »

In my local paper a guy had put a bet on with Coral and they had put the wrong odds on ( 325-1 instead of 25-1 ) and they wouldnt pay up stating it was an error down to new staff member and would only pay out on correct odds. Surely if some one has a slip with odds written by the company they would have to take the error and pay up rather than say no we cant (they used some clap trap about company policy) Does consumer rights not safe guard against this sort of thing as if you go into a shop and the wrong price tag is on, they have to sell at that price

They don`t have to sell at the wrong price if it is a genuine mistake - but most big shops will let you have it as a goodwill gesture.

That's a common misconception. Shops have no legal obligation to sell goods if the price tag is incorrect.

It is known as the palpable error rule. The rules are listed on a poster in every shop.

It works both ways if the price was smaller than what the staff member wrote youd get paid on the correct price.
Not what was written down.

This one reminds me (somewhat) of the story about the Euros.

Some clown was in the Sun looking forlorn holding his betting slip.

"My bookies is only paying out a single when I got a double up".

The double being Croatia to qualify for Euro 2008 and England not to.

He'd put it on at a point whereby Russia were through already I think and therefore if Croatia went through, evidently England could not.

Generally I like it when the punter gets one over on the bookie, but to whinge about a totally unfair bet in the paper makes your average Joe Punter cringe with embarassment.

That's a related contingency bet.

eg

You can't expect 35/1 on

Man Utd to win the cup 3/1 and

Man Utd to do the double (league and FA Cup ) at 8/1
