Well to be fair, playing Oche then you might expect these things, however ready they may look. Pure garbage.

That's always a pisser, nothing worse than losing and not having funds/coins to chase it up.

I remember playing JPMs Olympic Gold or whatever it was. It was maybe called something different, BFM did and Olympic Gold, but this one required bronze/silver/gold medals on win line to get on board.
It was very Camelotty, very, you know, less inspiring JPM profile. Every board was usually £3, you may have had a fast cash or even a nudge spinner, but by and large they weren't the greatest machines on 70% by the virtue that you may have to cycle lots of money for a result. A force was suicide.

Anyhow, it was at Leicester Station in that Lime Tree place. It wasn't a day for playing as I was travelling up to see some mates and had changed most of my coins. I had about £7 on me and of course, we're all addicts aren't we? Who could resist a flashy, shitty fruit on 70% in a skanky station cafe?

£7 in for a board, full up from the off. It was one of those where you could get that reel dapple feature and hold two of the reels to get a dapple on the best reel. I think I had something like trip (£10), bell(£3), single(£5) and being kind it gave me £5. Ah I thought, may try another board. Grab a quick board, see what happens. £5 back and it's a fruit win, higher than a 2.............1.

Grrrrrr. So I go to get change by the age old method of buying a flapjack that costs £6, no hold on, I'll have the mint imperials for £5.50 please mate, oh and the change in ones.

"Can't give you any ones I'm afraid, oh actually I can do a fiver's worth."

So that was that. £5 of change and did I get another board? Yes I did, but it was one of those that gives 765762542 nudges for grapes (£1.60 - basically £2), then an extra 7678623462 nudges now for melons (£2). You don't want to collect your two pound off the shitty cash belt feature, so you plough on, one more for pseudo fast cash which'll probably skip to melons, but may, just may yield some bars or even freakier, a jackpot.
Alas, next press was [?] = lose.

No more. A very alien feeling to stop as 'run out of money'. Something a mere mortal must experience on a regular basis, but for some reason I felt really angry, partly as I had another half hour of piss all to do whilst waiting for the train. I suppose I wasn't going to miss the train now due to getting involved.

You know sometimes they can grab you quite irrationally, I really felt like breaking something. It may sound brat like, but that's how it is sometimes.

Of course, these days I'm a lot more cool 8) 8) 8)

Cool man, yeah.

The money lost is not always proportional to rage experienced.

i) You're £8 down on a Games Media that has lost the gamble to 7 the last ten presses. The coin mech is very fussy and the landlord thinks the sound of constantly rejected coins is the sound of winning. The old codgers at the bar think the same and ask you if you make a living out of this. You feel like killing someone.

ii) You put £400 into an 8 liner and get no more than £50 from two sets of bars. You decide enough is enough and walk off shocked and slightly bitter but strangely serene.

I was never a fan of those type of JPMs, the ones with the Sonic the Hedgehog profile. I'd rather force my way to the top on a Snakes than stand for an hour recycling £3 boards, hoping for a £20 or £30 top.

When they first came out a local would-be player lost £200 in one trying to force it. I didn't believe it at first, and then I played one and it felt very Bell Fruit. OK there were a few tricks to be found, but they didn't get you anywhere (that no-lose on 132 mixed bars was a real non-event), and so you were left with a game that you couldn't make quick money on, aside from 2 or 3 quick boards which included a Super Loop repeat. But then you didn't want to spend half an hour on a busy day scraping tenners out of these when there were TGE's and the like to play.

Anti-force profiles when you least expect it (like BFM Monopoly - certainly no Lord of the Rings) are a great way of putting money in the box for those crucial first 3 or 4 weeks. By the time people have sussed the profile and are playing for cheap boards only the machine has been sold.

After Sonic we started seeing Stardust, Camelot, Maximum Overdrive, Ace Cash Raider and so on, all horribly anti-force and not really worth any time. The 'No Nudge Win' jackpot rip on Camelot was handy, but it was certainly no Nemesis.
