Just a short post today and going over little grey area’s on how the fruit machine industry is on its knee’s,

The fruit machine industry is dying before your very own eyes. If we do a PEST assessment and take the Political side, the government are constantly bombarded with pressure to improve education with such a tight budget but whilst we have numerous arcades clattered along the seaside’s there is a big risk of kids being drawn into gambling which could result into a social effect by needing to thieve from the community to fund there habit so crime rise's so these fruit machine companies will be very much under the spotlight in future which could possibly see the winning in a fruit machine taken out for a more fun element to reduce the addictive nature. Whilst the Economy is at such a fragile state with so much unemployment there are going to be less and less people playing fruit machines and more and more players who keep taking and taking so there’s going to be an unbalance and how do these companies level out the book?, well this is where new machines will have to be brought out asp which are going to be very difficult for players to make a profit from, it’s an easy solution isn't it? because you are the cancer of the company and buy cutting you out the profits should rise and I’m sure shareholders will have their say on this but eventually more and more £500 jp machines will be cropping up everywhere, its big its large its attractive and draws punters in who get addicted. Also how about the bloke who's putting these tricks into the machine, what if he gets the chop? Due to the companies doing some de-layering because of players. We briefly hit the social side in this report and for donkey’s years now the public have a dim view on fruit machines “the owner wins at the end of the day “now the new trend is these massive jackpots, they are big and attractive people feel they got a chance of winning and put £10, £20 here and there so there will defiantly be more of were these came from. What about local casino’s being built and how will these effect pubs that rely on customers? Why go to the pub in a crowded area of drunks when you can go to the casino and feel at ease in a more gambling presence. Technology is the key to profit, I have seen on Barcrest site they are advertising machines on your mobile phone!? Well well well what an inventive idea and I’m sure if this market lifts off why not start withdrawing machines from the streets and putting the machines available to play online instead? There would be a much broader market to aim at where as blokes might walk past a pub with no intention of playing a machine but may try £5 at home in his own environment, I am sure the pubs will approve of this who must lose a lot especially with the smoking ban and players doing their machines etc

I tell theee now, fruits are over.

I don't concur. I believe the comments on education and gambling are a non sequitur here. Demographic data shows that gamblers come from all social stratas and educational levels. An ex colleague of mine has given up his job as a chartered accountant to play backgammon for a living. Also £500 machines are less addictive then the cyclical £35 machines. There's absolutely minimal amusement in just pressing a start button on those 20 line monstrosities. If you are playing fruit machines in a casino £20 won't get you far.

I'm surprised you didn't make the point Harry, that if The Government doesn't care about busting a mortgage on a FOBT, why would it care about kids in a seaside resort?

Credit crunch = more skint ppl = more desperation = more ppl taking risks with money - in any way they can.
If only all them (w)bankers played the fruit's - could have cleaned up after them ;-)

HRK your post is very poor to the eye - all one paragraph and not very readable, hence I didn't bother going through it all... although I concer the game is pretty much up, the new machines are rubbish and designed to give very little advantage to the experienced player....

Although this may change in the future, I wouldn't hold my breath...

Times now aren't really any worse, despite the 'credit crunch'.
Playables still return good money generally, all that's changed is the percentage of good machines is about 1 or 2 in 10, when maybe it used to be 5-6/10 goodies.

it's not all that bad at the moment. You can still make good money if you're prepared to put the hours in. A lot of players won't get out of bed before midday and I reckon these are the ones' who are bleating on about how bad it is. If you can't put a full day in now when you are "your own boss", what are you going to do when you HAVE you get up at 7 o'clock to make someone else rich?
