MattB - Didn't you have a blinding day about a week or so ago? £600+ up?
I dont always agree with Anfield but he's right, get in your car and put the hours in. There is ALWAYS stuff to play but just because its not on your doorstep it doesn't mean its time to quit. Better than sitting in an office for 40hrs every week looking at the same boring screen all day.
Also Mr Fruitypie, I dissagree(spelling?). There are plenty of good full time players around my friend so if you need shooting down then lets get it on!!! And no mentioning of the ice cream saga, that wasn't me!!!

The screw is is definatley turning. Most of the playable machines are currently been phased out, thats not to say theres none out there, but we all know in a year it could be more or less over. The major worry for me is probably quite separate from others on this board. Fair enougth theres no new stuff coming out that seems playable but this has somtimes been the case in the past. The main thing for me is the larger suppliers are now cutting down on new releases by around 70%. Even if something playable does appear, it won't be anyway like the scale that it used to. This is due to a general downturn in the industry linked to the massive closure of pubs. I think this is the real nail in the coffin.

from 11 playable games where i play ( Mansfield ) i went yesterday to find only 2 left , within a day they had all changed to garbage.
got 3 cashattacks left ,1 on chip 1 others on chip 2, dont even consider p3s anymore as playable games.
so gonna have the day off today or maybe drive out to a new town and try to assess how many players are knocking about and see if i can be arsed to battle em all for it. agreed its getting harder but 4 good machines a week you will still earn more than fruity pie gets on the dole .

The opportunity to play machines for a job/ extra cash is contracting because of 10+ factors, all happening concurrently. I don't play full time but know plenty who do and it doesn't look good from the outside. There are many people who are concerned about things because it is all they have ever known.
Trayhop has been at the forefront voicing concerns about both the physical & psychological side of having to find a new "vocation". I can see where these concerns lie, but from reading your posts you seem like a well balanced guy who shouldn't have trouble adapting - the thinking about daunting situations is always worse.
This new life will be forced on players soon so they might as well give it a good shot. The power of a routine is underestimated and there are many disadvantages to living the life of a pro player which also be left behind. Of course there are always exceptions but this games leads to/ poor diet/ poor health/ long hours/ overheads/ poor appreciation of life/ not having time for GF's/ no mental switch off/ never knowing where the rent is coming from/ poor concentration/ generally bad quality of life/ etc/ etc
At least with a job you know your hours and salary and your free time is completely your own.
My life has been exposed to some of the negatives highlighted above, and after 2 1/2 years of playing seriously I'm ready to get out. It's kind of poetic that the punters are choosing to say no and having their revenge on the industry.

I know, I'm gutted, I thought I was the king of logical, thought-out reasonable (if slightly long) posts.
I agree with a lot of what you say and have a job lined up, full-time as of the end of this month.
How long it will last......we'll see.
