Lost my OPEN virginity
Hi
When I first got the OPEN a few weeks ago I had instances of the machine crashing but it was only on Pub Quiz . Every time it did crash if there was money in the bank I reset the machine and the money was still there - this only did not happen on 1 occasion.
I disabled PUB QUIZ and the machine has been as good as gold since then.
I have a game of Word Soup every morning before we open (not very good at it -my top score is only 900 !!) and on the odd occasion the touch screen has needed calibrating before we open for the day.
This is easily done and the machine hasn't missed a beat - with no complaints from the punters.
Very happy with it.
And its still performing well above what I expected it to - in fact its taking 3 times what the Megatouch used to take and that was an excellent earner - now I know this will fall away with time - but hopefully the game updates every 4 months and the rotational menu every Saturday will help.
A new game appeared on the similar games menu last night called Frog In A Liquidizer - I am sure you can guess the scenario - answer the questions or the frog gets it!!
Finally I have to agree with the menu layout on the front screen - talk about confusing - luckily as I stated before I have stood mnext to the machine and shown people how to create accounts and save their fave games - but I agree it will put off the casual player.

I'm not strong enough to have seen how Opens protect themselves either, but it wouldn't surprise me to hear it's the same as how an Ind:e protects itself i.e. by withdrawing the game in question from the selection screen (see my last Suri report, when the Ind:e in question withdraw Pub Crawl after he pillaged it).
But surely that would only happen if someone happened along and forced a pot or repeat pots on a game which didn't want to pay? I'm thinking of something like, perhaps, Pub Quiz, where a player with perfect bank knowledge could presumably take JPs for fun (unless there's some defence mechanism here that I've not seen - I'm rubbish on Pub Quiz).
I think DMAC's only saying that he knows of a game which pays out over 30 per cent consistently (to him at least) which isn't the same thing is it? If I get a £1 win for every 50p play from a game, that would bankrupt the machine in the end I guess, but only if I were tedious enough to bother. Am pretty sure from what he's said that DMAC is capable on something like ItBox Soccer (not that that occurs on an Open) of taking between £1 and £4 every go: I'd wager it's that kind of game (i.e words / quiz crossover) that he's talking about.
One old timer I came across last night on an Open was Cashcade - anyone got views on that? Always thought it was potentially a payer at the time, but never really bothered - a £10 prize on it last night suggests to me I ought to have made more effort back in the day. Is it 2 questions per prize level right up to the JP, does anyone know?
What did you win on FM Quiz, DMAC? I tend to take one big prize on each new Open I see and then never manage to again - although there's always a full scoreboard of 4-0s, 5-0s, 6-0s, so it's evidently well-played.

Which game was that? I lose track (or it might just be old age!).grecian wrote:One old timer I came across last night on an Open was Cashcade - anyone got views on that? As for the general debate re the Opens, I've only ever seen a couple of these and when I have they haven't ever included one of my 'golden' games so I've not seen how they react to paying out more than they want to. Well, that's not strictly true as my one of my golden games did appear on the last Open I saw (in Southampton) but it had been chipped so as to be almost comically difficult and non-paying, unless your middle names were Dewey Decimal and you knew the exact average attendances for 2006/07...
You chose one of six chutes at the top of the screen for coins to fall out of. They would fall down the screen, guided by pinball-style bumpers, into one of six question categories at the foot of the screen (there were also some bonus cradles in mid-screen). Collect coins by answering the questions to advance up the prize grid on the right hand side of the screen. The colour scheme was yellow, and the graphics had a pleasing chunkiness to them. I can't remember what it appeared on but I suspect it would have been round about 2003. Can anyone provide any more info?Nil Satis wrote:Which game was that? After a quick search, I've found the developers' site here:

(5th item on the top row)
I don't think I can remember seeing this one. Definitely old age!

The concept of both games is similar, but on the few times I've played it Cashcade looks a lot more winnable.whiteswan wrote: My OPEN Machine has cashcade on it as I was playing it the other day..........interesting to note its from the same developers as the Goldenballs pinball style game - which is still popular!
