I think INCA is pretty choosy about what he plays - I had clear evidence a while back of his having visited a (not well-known) location, played FFQ, but left Jiggy Bank totally alone. Similarly, back around the time of 54 I noted INCA had played Hell's Bells and FFQ on a fairly remote machine but left TIOLI well alone. I suspect it all comes down to the particular banks INCA knows - TIOLI and, I suspect, JB, are one-shot deals at every location and for someone of INCA's calibre, maybe that's not good enough.

Interestingly he seems something of a specialist - of the five games I would always look at as potential payers on an ItBox, three had been done (by him I presume) but two had been left untouched. The machine in question has only been back in commission for a few days after being signed as "Out of Order" for ages but it's in a location where it would have been quite a trek for him to get to if he is London-based and where there's not a lot else within easy reach. I would certainly have not left the two games in question in that pristine state (and didn't last night  ) but I suppose it's just another illustration of the Horses for Courses principle.

What is the highest score anyone has had and still not won the Jackpot? I got something like a 32-3-3 for 99 points at lunchtime and was still second by a few points. None of the six I missed were open goals (Ryan Babel's star sign anyone? ) so I didn't feel I could have done any better but even so...

I think Hexpert got 104 and finished 2nd. I wouldn't expect to JP it with 99, although I have done. I once JPed it with 96.
I've run-up with 104 before, and agree with DMAC that winning with 99 would be a rarity.

Im surprised that there has not been a list of players , highest known scores and teams supported composed - of course there will not be the variance as in Vaginal Bobs score site, however it would be interesting.Could have a league itself composed of the highest scores around by each team. Presumably a re-worked version will appear soon for the new season. Was in Fareham recently where a Reading fan was dominating the scores with at least one score 100+. I dont even play the game but still look at the high scores awesome stuff! Also interested if the number of plays relates to whether the local team is in the premiership or not. Do people in Portsmouth play it more than in Southampton?Yes I suspect players are that shallow and stupid (not the Fruitchat contributors of course)

A country-wide list would be good - if I had the spare time I'd risk the wrath of QuizMaster by going round and anally noting INCA's and other good scores in London! It's surprising, I suppose, that the game hasn't been linked for a national scoreboard per Puzzler.

I think football obsessives are common enough to make it reasonably likely that any area will have someone who's pretty good at FFQ (they'll have combined existing football knowledge with learning some of the GK by playing). Whilst most punters would presumably choose their favourite Premiership team, there are one or two slightly more strategic team selections and your "Reading fan" may not even support them!

I'm pretty certain than my feeling that it was updated a few weeks ago is right - I've had a big drop in my scores and am seeing plenty of new stuff (although I'm playing it a bit less). Pretty sure I got questions on the season just gone as well. Whether they'll update it to reflect the presence of Hull, Stoke and WBA in the Premiership is a good question - I'd presume they will.

As grecian himself pointed out to me, playing as Reading means you get to play Man Utd and Chelsea very early on when the questions are probably easier - the order of the matches is identical to an early version of the real 2007/08 season (to prove that I can 'out-anal' anyone, I know it's an early version because a couple of changes that were made to Everton's fixtures, when it was realised that Manchester City's last home game would need to be moved to prepare their stadium for the UEFA Cup Final, are not reflected in the game).

INCA plays as Chelsea so I'd be surprised to see anyone else at the top but I made a small contribution to Everton finishing just outside the FFQ Top 4 by winning only my second JP on Monday night, and in a neat tie-in to my question earlier in this thread it was for 99 points. To be fair though it was the first time I have seen this game actively being helpful, to the extent of almost being in 'gagging to pay' mode - I won the JP despite three times dropping into 2nd in the second half of the season and despite only drawing the final game. The fact that I was being watched throughout by a French couple * whose knowledge of English seemed pretty limited made the whole experience even more surreal...

* what's the French for "drippy couple" anyone?

Oh NIl Satis, don't give my Reading tip away! I'd further add that the fixtures are different on the GamesNet version and I've not yet worked out the best starting team (on the same basis) there. That said, starting as one of the big four (and therefore only having a big three to compete against) may outweigh my strategy- what's good enough for INCA should be good enough for me, I suspect! Well done on the JP - 99 certainly seems fairly generous!

For me, unless it's in non-pay mode, this game ends up being about beating one team, not four, so I'm not sure if that theory would help but it's definitely worth a try I suppose.

A much more important footie-related question has struck me however - are those winged horses on the Exeter City badge really wearing red lipstick??

I got 99 yesterday lunchtime and was third, albeit only on goal difference from the second place team! But £3 seemed paltry for a 32-3-3 season.

Hey guys, sorry i've been away for a while (ok so no one noticed!). :(

pinched a rare £20 on ffq the other day, nipping past Man utd on goal difference on the penultimate question and holding a real stinker to win it.

rah rah rah.

pike

still keeping my river tidy, despite what some might think!!

New type of spoiler on FFQ?

Post by grecian »

I was playing this on an Open last night which was generous, even after PIKE had visited and registered a 100+ score (I took two £5s and a £3).

I noticed that in just one of those games, for just one question, the question used a pure mathematical spoiler of the kind (I make up the numbers) "what is (1367-345) X (1563+469)", with four fairly plausible answers. Anyone else seen this? Is it peculiar to the game on the Open formats, or has anyone seen it on the ItBox / FFQ variants? If so, will it limit INCA's dominance, I wonder?
