Help 17-83 alarm

Post by monkeytrout »

I am hoping someone would be able to give me some more advise on my 17-83 opt blocked...'Tamper' alarm problem I'm still having.

The fruitmachine is a 'Revolution' which is running Genesis / MPU5 board.

I have stripped the 'compact' hopper right back and did my best to clear out as much dirt as possible around the purple coin wheel and sensor. By physically turning the wheel a pound ejects with no obstruction?

I have also tried to run the payout test: press 'Test switch twice' however I cannot seem to access this mode.

If anyone has any more suggestions it would be much appreciated...

Many thanks

Possiblilities,The hopper sensor could be failing, the motor also may be sticking, check the exit chute when the hopper is fitted in position and not causing the coins to jam.Open the top door, allow the machine to reset then turn the refill key first before pressing the test button twice.
when in payout test give the hopper a good run, keep refilling and emptying it to see if a jam or failure occurs.

17-83 Alarm

Post by monkeytrout »

Thanks for all that,

I have just got the machine into dump hopper mode- when I press start I get 17-83 again. I still cannot access payout test even with refill key turned? I presume it is supposed to throw the cash out into the payout tray?

I am sure that I have inspected and cleaned the payout wheel and sensors thoroughly many time over and all seems fine... I will try operating it in location now to see if it still fires the coins out.

Maybe its time to look at new parts- what’s the going rate for a new/used functional compact coin mech?

Feeling almost beaten with this one

Does anyone want an over glorified 'revolution' piggie bank :)

It's possible that the opto is knackered, although unusual.

Best thing to clean it with is isopropyl alcohol.

Did the machine develop this fault or was it there when you bought it?As you cannot get the hopper to dump because it alarms, there is a possibilty it may not be the just sensor failure. As aaamusements says it is unusual for the sensor to go.
When you stripped the hopper down you will notice there is a PCB with a plug fitted(have you checked that plug is still secure) in the hopper and containing components and a relay that could fail,The alarm is coded 17 for the hopper and on some machines that is a just a General hopper alarm and will display (opto blocked/tamper), the failure of power to the motor, hopper jammed or any wiring problems will also bring up that alarm,With a hopper sensor failure, some use the the code 18 displaying sensor fail.
Check all wiring and connections back to the MPU.If your sure that everything is ok then your next step would be replacing the hopper.
