i liked it in reading, very little riffraff compared with other places i've been to. although the beer was pretty foul in most of the boozers i went to.
the easiest money was from the fossil paragon at the multiplex where a certain easy game was offering £12, then £3, then £3 again. i should have potted QFG there too but fouled it up on some knowable questions.
can't remember the name of the pubs but the one in question had 2x issue 54; BESI had done the one at the front but not the one at the back. brannigans maybe. it was in the waterside area iirc.

nobody ever wins on those things.
The pub with the two ItBox 54s down at the riverside area (The Oracle) is the Olive Lounge (recently rebranded after being Bar 38 for a few years). The ItBox at the back there was the location for my single most lucrative ItBox session ever a few weeks ago, when every decent game seemed to want to pay. It is needless to say a little tighter nowadays
.
The other one seems always to be tight, which highlights that oddity we have mentioned on here a few times, namely that machines which are visible from the outside of pubs are often hit more frequently than those hidden away behind pillars etc. in the same pubs, the oddity being that it doesn't take more than a few seconds to check out any pub for the location of extra machines.

I agree - most of the new machines I play on seem to be >90 tiles. This generally means I can get about £2 on the end game.chaz wrote:What's the point of this game now? 90% of machines are at 99 - those who can clear it recycle their quid, everyone else puts in a quid, loses and never plays it again.
I reckon most machines have paid out more in prizes than they have taken in stakes...
Unless the cash game produces the terrible screen (which I have seen only once) in which the corner tiles are 50p rather than £2 and there are about 4x20p tiles!! Making it difficult for me to break even.
I think this game could be improved if there was more emphasis on the score rather than on using all the tiles i.e. make it more like the board game!
I agree Chaz. The rule seems to be if its 90 to 98 tiles you'll get the £1 corner screen. If its 99 tiles you'll get the terrible screen (50p in the corners). If its 80-89 you'll get the £2 corner screen + 30 secs. If its < 80 tiles you'll get the £2 corner screen + 40secs. Doesn't seem to matter what score you get or whether you get way more tiles than necessary...always seems to follow these rules.

Ooh I haven't played a bingo there yet - will try to remember to try to do this!ggdr wrote:I have a query that I suspect only VBob can answer - is there any form of monetary bonus given for scoring a bingo in the endgame?
Got 1631 a few days ago, taking BESI's top score in the Maidenhead Spoons from under his nose (literally). It's probably 2nd best score now (BESI still top with a ridiculous 1776).

Yep - played 3 Scrabbles today. All had a 99 tile requirement, including one that I had left alone for 3 and a half months. Endgame prizes now restricted to four 20ps in the corners.dmac wrote:Any else noticed that Scrabble's been tightened up?
This means that it is impossible to make a profit: SWP has lost its P.
My friend BESI could use his former World top 10 Scrabbler skills to get a record score, play unprecedentedly quickly on the endgame and still lose. The unfairness of this should be demonstrated to someone who is interested in such things.
Even if you were to win 80p, the machine wouldn't be able to pay you anyway. This in itself is a little odd.
The game has gone from being, admittedly, unloseable to unwinnable. I guess retirement is imminent and itbox is merely collecting what gratuities it can.

agree with Bob, it is very naughty. i never much cared for this as a word game but if you see a tenner in the street you are going to bend down and pick it up. i'm not sure i would for -20p
.
would it be too much to hope for that WU will be making a triumphant return immediately?

i will extend my quizzing empathy to you "wordies" over this. i really enjoyed watching a couple of mates of mine, who post on here, play scrabble. most entertaining, very different skills to mine required and not a little profitable.
two points, firstly, are you sure that this tightening up is not just restricted to machines which have been previously played and won on?
secondly, would have been nice to receive more empathy when i was complaining about a similar "illegal" type rigging on TIOLI.
have a good easter break everyone,
pike
soon to be stuffed stupid with choccy
