OK. In which year was someone in the British Isles was sentenced to death? The sentence was commuted to a life term of imprisonment pretty soon after.

Don't know who, but the location must have been the Isle Of Man.

1973, in Northern Ireland. I remember that, because it's the year I was born in. Can't remember the name though.
EDIT: Although, as Harry says, it could be Man, because 1973 was the last in the UK , which doesn't include Man.

Harry is right to say the Isle of Man - I used "British Isles" quite deliberately, as this geographical term encompasses the IoM, whereas "United Kingdom" and "Great Britain" are political terms which do not include the IoM. Anyone care to guess the year?

Hmmm, can't see it being that recent. 1990?

I think that this one has been asked on the Phoenix previously. Can't remember the answer though (although I seem to recall it was relatively recent and the sentence was never carried out, the guilty party receiving life imprisonment instead) - I will go 1981

Sorry for re-using - I don't visit the Phoenix regularly so didn't know!
The answer was 1992 and Weyland is closest with 1990, so I'll give it to him. The sentence was indeed commuted to life imprisonment.

Bloodthirsty lot.
Okay, this is another question in danger of having been asked before, but it's topical, so I'll ask it anyway.
After last weekend, there's a 3 in 4 chance the FA Cup will be lifted by a team from outside the top flight this year. When was the last time that happened, and which team did the lifting?

Nope, more recent than that. Which paper was that in? Newcastle didn't win it in 1908, Wolves did!

Sorry I think I misunderstood the question. Is the answer you want West Ham, 1980?
