I was pleasantly surprised by this at the weekend. T'was a chums birthday, and we'd started early (make that 10:00am) on Friday. Anyway, to cut a long story short, we ended up just about £8 a piece up from five sessions on DONDBR.
50p a play, four times we ended up with £1 and £5 left, and nabbed the deals, which if I recall correctly, varied from £3 up to £4.50. The other time we had £2 and £3 left and ND'd to get the £3.
This was on five different terminals, but it's essentially free money. I agree it's hardly a quiz game, as you'd have to be a complete moby to make an error on the three 'questions'.
I was under the impression that the £1 game was present purely as a 'lure', a bait which we did not bite. Has anyone played the £1 game and made anything to speak of?
Oh, and...

Quite possibly, but I'll take that £8 for now...One for the muppets.

"And do you ever contradict yourself, Minister?" "Well, yes and no..."
matt ffs you clearly realise you've just been really spawny to actually profit from these when the payout on the game is well under 50%!!!
The £1 game is exactly the same but with all the amounts doubled, so you would have won £16 instead of £8 in theory (in practice no, as it would have probably blocked such high wins on a quiz machine!)

Heh! I do realise that - but it was still worth it at the time...
And I don't think I've seen a 'pro' playing the SWPs near me, so there's often beer money going cheap. This time it happened to be from BR. Monopoly is usually the one that pays for at least one round, however.

You may well be on to something there, as I've been pondering the odds too. If you look at the real tv show (and I'll admit to 'occaisionally' having it on the box (pardon the pun) as it happens to coincide with my evening paper-reading session after work), it's not often that anyone walks away with anything over £10k. Which is around the 4th red, is it not?
May be like the 'random but to a percentage' AWPs that are 'not' fixed?

Remember the normal SWP percentage payout is only 30% or less, not 70%+ like AWP.
I find it difficult to believe this game can be legal on an SWP terminal. It is in effect a game of chance (maybe fixed or otherwise) skewed heavilly against the punter, only very thinly disguised as an SWP. I would like to see people making formal complaints to the Gambling Commission regarding this game. If they are allowed to get away with this you can only expect more of the same.

I tend to agree Quizard. In my view, Big Reds is the nastiest thing we've seen on an SWP terminal since The Great Escape (and probably nastier). Both are effectively games of chance masquerading as games of skill, as you say.quizard wrote:Remember the normal SWP percentage payout is only 30% or less, not 70%+ like AWP.
