I can confirm that TE is a very profitable game if you know your films and like the hangman-type games. Even when you win it's somewhat unsatisying though

I probably clear the old Word Ups that I come across about 5% of the time, compared to about 70% of GMs. I've JPed WUGM numerous times now just by hacking...

I'm not a phrase game fan since I find them far too long to play even if they do payout well. I do know a couple of lads who are playing this though. They reckon the payout is set to 50% because it's a £1 a go. Not something I'm prepared to put to the test but better minds than me on here may have a view?

That's what I've been thinking. Actually I was wondering if they had increased the payout on ALL games, in anticipation of an across the board quid a game rollout?

I do wonder. Or whether they are, for a while, putting some low-hanging prize fruit in a lot of new games to try to tempt new custom and re-energise the market a bit. Contrast the initial generosity of, say, TIOLI, WWTBAM, new TXF, TGP with a game like Monopoly which didn't have anything much in it when launched.

If you've been playing the games for 20+ years, and given the knowledge you display in your other posts, you surely know all there is to know in respect of the games themselves. Perhaps I'm under the misguided illusion that increasing your knowledge alone is the best way to improve once you reach a certain level, but you seem to be implying something else here. Or have I misunderstood you?

I was actually thinking the same thing. I can see that a novice could follow me around for an evening (and if you are Derby then I am probably only Sheffield Wednesday or something!) and they could learn what I would consider useful information about which games to play and which to avoid, albeit that this is very much a matter of personal interest and skills - I was mighty proud of a 1650ish Word Up clearance the other day only to find it didn't even get on the Top 10 board as VBob and others had been there before me!

But what could you learn in that way from a "real boy" given that you must play all the games intensively at first to find out what pays?

Or is it simply the motivation to know that no matter what level you reach there is always someone out there who knows a lot more and/or is faster than you? A novice would probably think that of me but how could they apply that knowledge to making themselves better?

I played for years under the assumption that I was the best player around and could pick any new game up and then I spent an hour in the company of somebody was who WAS brilliant.

Games are here today, gone tomorrow. So we might have a bit of fun when a Big Match comes along or there's a bit of 'low hanging fruit' as you call it.

It's all about application and the work ethic. I never really had any until I saw what could be done.

'better' with swp's is intangible , as its impossible to measure.Winnings v abilty on 1 game v many games v speed of getting round pubs v number of pubs in an individual records. and being a professional means nothing as everybody has differing expectations of earning potential.
