after witnessing zealous dullards at the wetherspoons near holborn station both Bob and Fotherz had made pathetic attempts to colonise the venue. but it was the mighty pseudonym who prevailed with that pub's first scoring clearance: an admittedly mediocre 1811. however, the first ever scoring ten without any power tiles was OFFICIALLY recorded. the name? BOBS LOSE. now when do you want to hand over that belt?
oh and Fotherz; your taste in infant programming is impeccable.

Ah yes - one of the very few places in which I somehow didn't manage to clear before moving on. Twas my irritating brother who insisted on hurrying me out of the venue.unknownpseudonym wrote:after witnessing zealous dullards at the wetherspoons near holborn station both Bob and Fotherz had made pathetic attempts to colonise the venue
An update from Bristol - ANDY ANGIE today ramped up our career best total by over 100 points to post 2016 in the White Harte. This also brought us our first £10 jackpot, though in an earlier game we also had a chance of a big win - £1 was about 650 and it was increasing by £1 for every 50 points or so. This meant that the 'Collect or Continue' window was coming up so often that it was actually quite hard to enter any words, and sure enough, we eventually hit Collect by mistake while trying to type something in. So we left with £4 when £5 was in sight at 850 and the clearance was very much on as well.
(As the Harte has just been renovated, hence the ItBoxes have lain dormant for a while, I imagine it'll be some time before we have the chance of such riches again)

yep, we've all been there with collecting accidentally. this has the double disadvantage of being both utterly reprehensible and shunting the prize bar up to 1850 for £1. a decent 1842 at the captain's cabin on haymarket was rewarded with squat.
well done on breaking 2000 Angie.

Good work Andy and Angie.
Played in probably the best hour of Word Upping ever this morn. Having taken my Puzzle Word prodigy of a brother (his best score 2865 (with +1000 for clearing); top non-clear 1881) with me, we combined our strengths (his word spotting and my strategy) to post these on the star machine:
2088
2023
2016
1962
1947
1935
Clearing percentage was about 70%, 1900+ at 40%ish.

could it be that WU on itboxes has had a minor tweak that makes higher clearances more prevalent in the last few days. after AA and VB's herculean efforts and in the spirit of wordupmanship i got 2090 at the fountain's abbey near paddington. the next person who plays it will need to get 2200 to win £1.
oh, and i've changed my name (see below)
