Funny Money

Post by pokerpete »

In a previous life I worked in banking and was quite involved in Money Laundering detection.

It occured to me that these Roulette machines in betting offices could be a bit dodgy.

£100 a spin paying at 97%. That's not a bad charge for sticking a layer in and there's a nice reciept to prove where you got your money from.

If you suddenly had £5k to explain a tour of LBOs and £4700 worth of reciepts might be a start.

Not that I have £5k to explain

no, you'd need to prove you won a large amount.
make 50 individual £100 bets and keep receipts for your wins

I didn't even think you had to bet. Just put the money in and collect the receipt

You'd also have to be a little bit savvy i.e 5k all in one machine would raise a few eyebrows, but spend a whole day (8.30 - close) doing small amounts, £100 - £250, in a town/city where no-one knows you, you would clear a hell of a lot more. 8)

A while back me and a mate had £200 coins we wanted changing. Already changed alot in an arcade so we chucked £200 in one of the roulettes had a few spins small betting spins and took £200 back out. Got the notes, couple of minutes later we were asked to hand the notes back and have our coins instead.

That pisses me off too. I do like a quick £5-£10 spin if i've won a fair bit, and sometimes go halves or thirds in with mates to make it £30 odd. Stick £30 coins in, get a nice bank, take it to the desk to get your winnings and get a big whinging moan from the lard arse behind the desk. 'Don't put coins in, now i've got to go and pick all those up at the end of the day'. Aw diddums. You mean you might actually have to get off your backside and work instead of sitting on it doing nowt for 8 hours? My heart bleeds.

Rant over! :x

Absolutely agree, Matt B.

£30 in doing £1 bets on the roulette. Guy at the counter asks why I kept putting in £1. Why not put in a note? Why not play with money in the bank?

What kind of lousy customer service is that?

Ladbrokes.

Silly question perhaps, but why not just take them to the bank? :?

Most banks will only accept FIVE bags at once unless you are a business customer. If you put fifty £20 notes into the machine, played a tenners worth and went to collect the £990 it flashes a warning on the FOBT monitor behind the counter and is referred to a manager.

5 bags? Rubbish.....the last week i've taken £2100 to 3 banks in 4 different trips, most were happy to serve you and gave the usual 'Been saving up' 'Someone's been paid' or 'Who's won loads of money then?' comments. Back to £250 coins again now, time to rebuild the mountain once more 8)
