Chortle.
As Peter Kay said, "I wouldn't mop my drains out with that muck"...
Er.... was it named after a real-life Dr Pepper, who might have endorsed the product?

there is an urban myth about it being named after the inventor's girlfriend's father. when the relationship foundered he demanded to not endorse the product. but this is hooey.
the answer is much simpler
nobody ever wins on those things.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the reason you put a '.' on the end of abbreviations is if the last letter of the word is missing. Therefore, Dr, Mr, Mrs etc don't need a '.'
Therefore if it is named after a Dr Pepper, then this is the correct spelling?

Crush me, you filthy sassenach.
Okay. Sticking with national anthems...
The Spanish are well known for their working practices, throwing goats out of tall buildings and sleeping all afternoon under a tree, but what is remarkable about their national anthem?
