Just seen this on another site. Don't know how acurate it is :
this new law means that if you convert any exsisting £25 machines before 1st sept to new £35 games and you can can keep them on old programs with in-riched period and you can keep them as long as you want but they all must be licensed and registered with gaming board but any new machines will now be designed with a flat profile have seen guide lines and when they say flat i mean flat no streaks what so ever no in-riched periods these machines will all be very boaring will play flat like vegas machines then next in is all programs will hve to be checked by gaming board before being released to check for in-riched periods and any faults with game play so no more fiddles even hi-tec machines in pubs have to run pure flat even that pre gamble has to change so get ready to be really bored as for s16s all becoming b3s £1 max most will become club machines as most want to remove the random game and yes all progresive pots are to be removed no more gold silver or bronze oh well back to the stone age!!!!!!

Hi All,
Just couple of quotes from The Gambling Commission.
"The gaming machine industry has developed equipment which it calls a “Section 16 machine”. Permission for use of this equipment is being sought via permits under section 16 of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976.
• DCMS and the Gambling Commission are concerned by the development of this equipment.
• Licensing authorities have always had a broad discretion on whether to grant or renew a Section 16 permit.
• The Gambling Commission’s advice is that it is undesirable for Section 16 machines to be located in any premises frequented by, or environments attractive to, under 18 year olds, or in premises where supervision of the machines is inadequate.
• In addition, authorities should scrutinise carefully applications from premises which already have gaming machines authorised under section 34 of the Gaming Act 1968, e.g. pubs with gaming machines, and consider the desirability of allowing further machines in such surroundings.
• Every application should be considered on its merits.
• From 1 September 2007, any doubt about the status of these machines will be removed: they will be classed clearly as gaming machines, subject to the same limits on stakes and prizes, and numbers and locations as other gaming machines,"

&quot wrote:all programs will hve to be checked by gaming board before being released to check for in-riched periods and any faults with game play so no more fiddles even hi-tec machines in pubs
Who exactly at the gaming board has the knowledge expertise to comb through the long lines of coding for EVERY new machine released to check for bugs, fiddles and happy periods.......anyone who is given an opportunity and has the know how to do this wont stay at the Gaming Board long...they will be the first to hand their notice in the first time they discover a couple of emptiers they can exploit .....sign off the licence that the machine is ok and go and carefully and quietly milk it for a few months and take home more than they would get working for the gaming board in a lifetime.

The simple answer to Chris's original question comes - somewhat surprisingly - from the Player's Heaven site:

Hi, I heard that in september the law changes so that section 16 machines will be replaced by section B3 machines, that have a max play of £1 a spin £500 jp and do not need to be random - is this definantely true?

Reply from Players' Heaven:
Hi obobob

Yes thats correct - details to follow on the site.

This machine may at times offer a choice where the player has every chance of bankruptcy
