I know Matt isn't lying for sure, me and him have met up plenty of times, I was playing for a living for a good 6 months, making about the same.

Though it may appear to some people on here that i lie about how much i win.....i honestly don't! I estimate i've made around £4000-£5000 since xmas without a job. I was £1500 overdrawn from my student life then, and now i'm £1,700 in credit which i reckon is a good effort. I spend a fair bit and go out most days of the week too, so it works out well. Obviously being reasonably bright and having a degree i don't want to keep doing this all the time.....but until a decent enough job rolls along, its all good.

Matt

I started a thread a while ago about keeping records. you shouldnt need to 'estimate' six months results. as a pro poker player I knew how much I won month to month TO THE PENNY. when you're gambling your mind plays tricks on you. your addition is always shakey. I've stood behind someone and watched them dump their paypacket into an AWP and then swear they were only £20 down.

besides, £5000 over six months isn't much money is it? If you're any good you'd make double that working in the industry even at entry level. You might think you're better off gambling than working for a living but apart from the fact you're not a full functioning member of society (ie meeting new people in a work environment / learning new things / paying tax), how do you think a five year gap in your work history looks on a CV.

Going back into full time employment was the best decision I ever made.

Why should you need to keep records when your playing? What use are they, who cares what the actual figure you made is, what matters is solely how much money you have now; the figure is not going to help you in any way!

Not sure why you are getting all high and mighty here? I don't see any point of keeping records either. What good do they do? If anything i think your judgement and mindset change if you know what you are up or down. I just take a load out with me, play everything as i would, then get home and see what i've got. Simple enough.

I do actually work in a local school....but the hours can be counted on one hand a week at the moment, so its barely work at all. I'm sure things will get better in the future. :)

I also never recall saying i'm better off playing these than working. But unless i can get hold of a worthwhile job that pays well, i am better off doing this. Crap jobs generally pay £800-£900 a month after tax anyway, and i can make that much without having to actually do any work. Which option would you choose? 8)

I'd work

as to the rest of it, sorry, you misunderstand me. I'm not having a go at you personally. It's more of a general point. I spend a lot of time around gamblers as you'd expect. The don't mean to but they tell lies. they lie to themselves and to others about their results.

Records are HUGELY important as a poker player and as a gambler.
In poker you are playing a game where if you can give yourself an edge by looking for the games that suit you best. (stakes, STT, MTT, cash, online, live, etc)
As a fruit machine player you are playing games where the machines edge over the playing public is considerable. the % return is FAR worse than casino table games. you need to have an edge if you are to survive LONG TERM.

I've never met a losing poker player everyone either makes a fortune, makes a small profit or, at very worst, breaks even. god knows where all the money is coming from if no-one is losing?

with the attitude, I go out with a load and play. then count what I have at the end, trust me, eventually you WILL go broke. however good you are, it's inevitable.

I've got such a poor run of machines at the moment, all these Global clones and Deal or no Deal clones. All reds are smashed and I haven't got a car at the moment either.

Work or gamble?

Definetly work because of a few reasons, i like working its keep me fit working is my excercise during the week, two i like my job, three i get paid a decent amount a month for my job, once my apprentiship is over and im on full wage, i dont think i could make that out of gambling on fruit machines, in fact it wouldnt be possible(for me ).

Gambling for living, depends what you want to do go round all day playing fruit having a few pints , dont get me wrong i love doing that but what if you have responsibilities ie kids or a morgage and you have one bad gambling day this could affect how you live. as you get older you'll need to make more each day and so.

Dodgy business for me, well its an easy life, but as you get older youll find it harder to live off.

really. I doubt any major lenders would touch a 'pro' gambler. certainly not without records. I worked for a major mortgage provider for 3 years and we certainly wouldn't have touched it

A wise man once said "poker is a really hard way to make an easy living." I'm sure fruit machines is even harder.
