the education of quiz machine pros.
As a history student who plays fruit machines im not a great one to talk about quiz machines. You guys who make a living from playing must be reasonably intelligent. just wondering if you all had firsts in english from oxbridge? lol. oh yeah always wondered how much do u make a year? 50 k +. oh and i jped hex 2 the other night from my first go, should i feel proud or was it a fluke
you dont have to be University educated to be any good at quiz machines and in these days when its more about having the money to pay for it and not the quality of the degree there is more kudos in not going.Even when I went 80-83 the only person to fail out of 60 students in my subject had problems with drug taking. I got 2:2 geography Southampton. Desire to win and dedication(some would say addiction) is more important than education.

I'd agree with UKP there. I must admit a few years ago I got sick of the endless lists that were coming out about certain subjects, so rather than learn them, I did read all of Shakespeare's and Dickens' works so as to familiarise myself with all the characters. This has proved more useful to me as a long term playing benefit than for any individual game.
And an understanding of Latin is very useful, particularly in Science releated questions. Lazy question writers to tend to revert to the Latin names for animals and plants as spoilers quite a lot. And it helps a lot with the AZ on Pub Quiz as well.

Never jped Hex yet. How long did it take and how much IS a Hex JP? (given that it doesn't advertise the JP on screen or in Rules).
Also, Hex 2?? A new version of Hex maybe? Different categories? Maybe if it is a new game, that's why it gave you a JP (not found it's payout level yet)

Witty.Youre right .University to me was just a way of postponing having to work for a living. Unless the degree has some relevance to the resultant job in my opinion its a waste of time, moreso today. The taxpayers of the 80's had to subsidise my education so that I could become a quiz machine pro. Great!
hey cool, didn't you admit to your local newspaper that the only reason you became a "pro" was because you only got a 2:2 ? What would you have done if you had got a 2:1 then?cool wrote:Witty.Youre right .University to me was just a way of postponing having to work for a living. Cambridge pub machines are generally not hard to win on. The reason is that although there are brainy gimps around who play machines in swarms of up to 15, they only play in their own college bars in long sessions. [for real people, Cambridge is one big uni, but students live in about 30 small colleges]. They have some good knowledge of course, but no specialist spoiler ability. So they get 30% of what they put in, if that.
They rarely if ever go to one of the other colleges, let alone pubs.
