So what is the tournie leaderboard looking like- I can never access it.
Reckon we should have an unofficial board here.
I have only managed 1899 so far (although no Zs on the board and I tend to rely heavily on double Z, L type words).
Did get a high 1500s non clearance which I was gutted about as would have been first 2k for me.

i don't actually know what my top score is on WUGM. i suspect it is somewhere between 1850 and 2000 though.
i know it is daft but i feel very sordid to clear with what i don't consider to be bona fide words. there is little satisfaction for me in that. but i have covered why already in this thread.

I've had a few more plays on the national tournament - but no spectacular scores to threaten any of the top players yet. Will each player only be eligible for 1 prize? For example, if Bob has the top 3 totals in the tournament, and UP has the 4th, does Bob get £1000 + £900 + £800 or just £1000 with UP taking £900?
The EWQ website scoreboard suggests I'm about the 6th-8th best ('known') player in the country (but clearly am unlikely to get the 6th best score) so does that mean I should be on for £3-400 if everything goes to plan?
Or will there be some shenanigans going on with the same player submitting multiple identities/mobile numbers?

Same here. I suspect it has been deliberately disabled so crap players think they might be in the running for the big dosh, not just the lower placings. And of course, no guarantee any scores you get meanwhile will be counted, or mysteriously lost.the hornby wrote:So what is the tournie leaderboard looking like- I can never access it.
I also wonder if there might be some fictional scores by the end, or maybe really good players that have not been encountered yet.
Doesn't follow: 'weak link' refers to a link in a chain, rather than the link playing alone.Ernest W. Quality wrote:EWQ+Fo with VB: 2318
EWQ+Fo without VB: longest word record
EWQ without Fo/VB: 2219
Fo without VB/EWQ: 2210
VB without Fo/EWQ: 2137
Weak Link.
Better luck with the pithy putdown next time.

WORD UP WORLD TITLE CHALLENGE BELT SINGLES FINAL III
The most exciting one-on-one battle so far in Word Up. Here's what happened between Unknown Pseudonym and Vajinal Bob:
player that went first mentioned first
Game 1: VB: 1335 UP: 1707 1-0 to UP
Prefight kidology from UP led me to believe that his clearing skills were rusty. Nick-of-time endgaming told otherwise.
2: UP: 1213 VB: 1337 1-1
Steady wordfinding (as ever Wink ) from me levelled things, but my pre-clear prep was looking shoddy.
3: VB: 1440 UP: 1605 2-1 to UP
4: UP: 1868 VB: 1105 (theoretically unclearable grid) 3-1 to UP
Top score of the tie from UP. Terrible grid for me added insult to injury.
5: UP: 1221 VB: 1401 3-2 to UP
Somehow managing not to brick it completely.
6: VB: 1792 UP: 1114 3-3
A beautiful RAPSCALLIONS from UP buggered his pre-clearing and thankfully stuffed any chance of beating my score.
7: VB: 1661 UP: 1623 4-3 to VB
Concentrated on clearing, as did UP. VB retains the title. Cool
Clears: VB: 2 UP: 4
Ave. scores (not including bonuses): VB: 1296 UP: 1193
This was a nail-biting match, with both players performing very well under tremendous pressure. Could have gone either way - well done to UP for some awesome word-finding and superb clearance play. Very Happy
okay you were right.

Having got 1994 the other day only to discover the network/database/whatever of the national game was 'uncontactable', I was going to come on here and bemoan my bad luck at missing out on likely being one of the top-10 players in the game. However, today I was able to access the leaderboard so far and it turns out I had nothing to worry about.
Unfortunately, to judge by the locations in which the national top scores have been achieved, it looks like VBob has basically got hold of all the mobile phone numbers of everyone he knows and gone on to totally monopolise the leaderboard, with the odd appearance from EWQ, Craig etc.
Because alternative identities have obviously been used except for the No1 score (an impressive 24something), it's impossible to tell how many of the top 40 actually are Bob, but I would hazard a guess that, for example, most of the ones from the Playhouse are (or his bro).
The end result is that you need a 2000+ to break into the top 40 already (for which you'd get £20) - though it does taper off a bit (my 2153 would still be good for mid-£100s). So I'm not sure if it'll be worth ploughing pound coins into the machine to try and get a 2100+ for a meaningful prize, when the chances are that players like UP & myself will only end up with low/mid 2000s at best.
Bob - how are you going to collect all the money? It must be £5000+ or something?! Where have all the different mobile numbers come from?
And does anyone know if there are players out there who aren't any of us under fake names, players who've been under the radar of the EWQ website until now, who are good enough to be on that board?

I don't travel that extensively, or indeed play Word Up other than as a recreation, but the only scores I ever see that I find really impressive on the ordinary game are by names I recognise on here - there aren't lots of scores of even 1500+ on the machines I play which use e.g. the anonymous 'Word Up' username.angie wrote:And does anyone know if there are players out there who aren't any of us under fake names, players who've been under the radar of the EWQ website until now, who are good enough to be on that board?
