Ha, I fondly remember transcribing likely spots onto maps from the Cloud list back in the day - I worked it out myself and felt sure I was ahead of the curve. No doubt everyone had the same thought! I find some totally new pubs that way too.Northern Monkey wrote:Remember ten years or so ago when you could just go on the Cloud website and search for hotspots to locate all of the it boxes instantly. Nowadays everyone is on the cloud but back then nearly every hotspot signalled an SWP.
That's an interesting question,JG,would I like you to mention SWP rich areas (there are still some? Presumably not London from what Sloach was saying) or would it cause annoyance? Actually, that's a far more interesting question than you tend to get asked on a SWP.Well,on one hand, yes that would be great if you knew some fertile ground and posted it.On the other hand, that wouldn't be so good if they were somewhere I already regularly went,as they may then well end up being less SWP rich once a number of pros descended (I would imagine that's what wires is thinking). Also, they mightn't be within a practical distance of me anyway.JG wrote:What is the etiquette with me mentioning SWP rich areas on here? I suppose what I'd selfishly like you to do is to send me a PM detailing exactly where you mean lol.
How are things in the world of AWPs? I hope the future looks a little rosier than it does in the quiz machine world.
Yes,I remember clearly when I found that out,I was in a Wetherspoons and excitedly read that the cloud had a website detailing hotspots - found loads of new pubs that way, much the same as grecian. The first time the net came in useful though was slightly earlier when there was a tournament on Gamesnets and it said that you could check the website for participating venues.I'd only recently gone online then and was amazed as a whole list of pubs were printed out;there were some quite close to me that I didn't know about which showed how poor I was at scouting!Northern Monkey wrote:Remember ten years or so ago when you could just go on the Cloud website and search for hotspots to locate all of the it boxes instantly. do you all own/have access to quiz machines a bit like the best fruit players? do you look for "empties" i e weaknesses in the menu etc as well as trying to work out methods for beatable game? if a game gets "taken off" coz you are beating it too much, have you looked into how to get it back on?
would be interesting to know the pysche of a top quizzer! or are most of you dependant on core knowledge and have no idea how to take on the creators of those games? i believe your good fruit machine player would be sharper and more clever in working things out, although considerably less so in other pursuits?!

Going skint....
Can't argue with you when it comes to profit nowadays bubbles but in the past there has been one or two young ladies that have been impressed by my quizzy prowess.(And by young,I don't mean that young before you start).
I'll give you that fruit machine players are onto things better than quiz players - I found out about Connect 4 from a bandit player, and there were a couple that passed me by that I know the fruity players were on to.Some of that I suspect is down to having connections rather than having worked it out themselves though.I don't want there ever to be emptiers though,I rely on my core knowledge being better than the average punter as you suggest.Never owned a quizzy either. Is it common for the fruity players to have a personal one they own then?

Generally I know when playing Pints whether it will pay out small, big or fack all within 30 seconds of playing it (usually regrading how many lifelines are lit up and also what sort of categories are popping up early doors).bubbles wrote:do you all own/have access to quiz machines a bit like the best fruit players? do you look for "empties" i e weaknesses in the menu etc as well as trying to work out methods for beatable game? if a game gets "taken off" coz you are beating it too much, have you looked into how to get it back on?

When Footy quiz was omnipresent it was a bit different as they are fixed questions so it's just consistantly playing it and then I'd get a good run of categories.
Getting games back on, ehhhhh? I'm not that discreet that I can quietly take the back of machine out and rewire the thing. Closest is just switching it on and off if the coin dosen't accept which usually works. I did wonder whether there was a sneaky way of getting the old Issue 32 update and game selection back on....
Greetings Quizchatters. Firstly apologies for getting anyone's hopes up that there may well be SWP rich areas. It was a slightly daft question. In some instances in the fruit world, the location is worth more than the method itself, purely because a method may be very well known and a particular location not so well known.
I suppose the drive for asking the question is the differences in SWP keen enthusiasts vs the AWP equivalent. The biggest difference is quantity. There are literally thousands of AWP pro of varying skill sets up and down the country and relatively few of the SWP pro. It's like the angry urban metropolis vs the relaxing cosy village pub. In other words I was wondering if amicable sharing of locations was far more prevalent amongst SWP pro. By SWP pro I am referring purely to the quiz machine side, not any aspiring teddy grabber pros.

I do not expect fellow players to provide pubs for myself & neither do I offer pubs except when I get banned!
I have a friend in London who was particularly good at a game I and other pro's had overlooked , in his case I met him and took him round the scattered locations where the game still existed near to where I live and no I didnt want anything back for doing it!

Some interesting points.
I don’t own an SWP and never have done, although I did once obtain a CD of cracked SWP games many years ago, which I couldn’t be bothered to spend time playing and felt guilty about owning anyway.
Speaking for myself, I relied during my SWP days on pretty strong general knowledge, augmented as need be to take on particular games (i.e. if I needed to, I’d make an effort with stopper questions). I don’t believe I ever spotted a bug myself but that probably shows that I was never playing enough (or well enough) to do that – I know of other strong players who are able to spot and exploit bugs. I suspect most strong players, and I include myself in this, have a very strong ability to work out very quickly if a game is worth persisting with though.
When playing, I saw venue knowledge as being a key part of the game, and therefore wouldn’t expect other serious players to divulge that unless we were e.g. planning a route together.
