Because that isn't a picture file, it's a link to a page that loads a picture. Poor.

The moral is, stupid free picture hosting sites are stupid (albeit free).

Thanks Ernest. I'm on the ball.

And just so I haven't added another pointless message to this already mammoth thread, I had a rubber of Word Up in The Bowtrees Farm pub near Kincardine. I achieved 1190ish points and won £1. I can't remember my best word, but that's probably cos it wasn't very good. It might have been QUARRELS but I can't make any promises.

ANGIE LIAM picked up CLINICALLY (340) and QUIZZING (336) in Yates', Glasgow, yesterday but we were, on the whole, in dire form. Liam's still very new to the game so I think breaking 1900 with him in tow is very unlikely for the next month or two, though I still manage to fit in a fair amount of solo play, so I'm still aspiring to the solo 2000 ASAP.

In other news, I think ANDY is becoming more of a practising soloist, but I think mid-1200s is roughly where he's at just now.

Just had to let all you experts know I jackpotted WU last week. The score for this mighty feat- 875. The lesson - don't be afraid to go into pubs where you have been previously informed local gangsters have banned all 'normal' members of society...!

Even got out with the money lol...

QUINTESSENCE and QUIZZERS (both solos) to report from Bar Radio tonight, also a couple of high 1700s and a mid 1400 non-clear...so pretty mundane business as usual sadly, I need to refind my mojo sometime soon

Hey,

Right I haven't been playing too much and struggling a little with solo efforts, but starting to get into the solo play.. you just have to be alot quicker! Just a few 1200s so not great. Yesterday got a few half-decent words above 200 though:

QUESTIONERS 264/11
BRILLIANTS 250/10
PHYSICISTS 240/10
BABBLINGS 207/9

Nice work with the counterrevolutionary, but it obviously would be more spectacular in a pub venue :)

good work Hinitt (are you known to the WU scene or a newcomer?) either way welcome to fruitchat.

i've been pretty poor lately (lacking both in $ and quality)

so not much moving or shaking at this end. i did duplicate IMPRESSIONISTS and got 1844 yesterday but will PM Ernest with the details.

Yeah I am the other half of 'andy angie'.

I think a bit more solo play is needed in order to beat the clock. Got down to the point of clearance with some good shape, but in order to get there I am not checking the vowel-consonant ratio and also tend not to get rid of all the problem letters early on. Just a bit more practising needed :)

Finally Andy is making his presence felt! Appropriately, it's coincided with an all-too-fleeting ANGIE ANDY reunion in Bristol at the weekend. The highlights from no more than a couple of hours decent WU (it was just a couple of hours as a drunken Andy fell in love with Boggle and demanded it was played excessively) are as follows -

Scores we did get (Edd was also briefly involved) -

ANGIE ANDY - EMBEZZLING (400)
ANDY ANGIE - QUIZZICAL (423), QUIZZERS (304)
ANGIE EDD - QUIZZERS (304)
ANDY H (Andy's solo screenname) - SQUIRRELLY (330)
ANGIE - 1840

All these scores were in Berkeley, Bristol. I also got DEMONICALLY (330/11), yet again, as ANGIE LIAM, in Hengler's Circus, Glasgow.
(I like SQUIRRELLY - I thought it would be ANDY H's solo debut on the website but I see that in practicing for the Bristol trip he got the somewhat less attractive QUESTIONERS.)

Infuriatingly, we were actually playing pretty well, maybe clearing 40% of the time, with scores invariably 1700-1799, and, for the majority of our non-clears, scoring 1300-1480. If only the clearances and big scores could have come together once or twice!

Still, the main story of the trip was...

Scores that weren't allowed

We were pretty chuffed to get 'CZARITZA' (or it may have been the plural) as listed in the EWQ website 'Useful Words' list but the game didn't have this in its vocab - it was the larger-vocab version of the game as well.

But a more dramatic rejection was to come when I managed to get one of my dream words which I'm pretty sure is definitely a bona-fide English word but it was rejected! I'll attach a photo of it to a separate post in a minute, suffice to say that the value of this (12-letter) word would have been 516...

Actually I won't be posting anything just yet - how do you make a photo file smaller so it is under the 512KB limit for attachments on this forum? I can't remember how I did it for QUIXOTICALLY...

Just open it in, for example, MS Paint.

That proved a lot simpler than I was expecting, thanks for the prompting EWQ. Anyway, the word is attached, hopefully you won't shoot down my excitement by saying it isn't actually a word (and I don't think spelling was the issue as it was tried with both 'N' and 'NN' and neither worked).

PS EWQ, I'd be most obliged if you could repeat the magic you performed with QUIXOTICALLY to make this photo appear in the thread not just as a download.
