Playing on a budget

Post by Texas Pete »

Has anyone noticed how differently you play if you're on a seriously restricted budget?

I mistakenly left my wallet, with all my bank cards at home today (duh) and the only cash I had access to was a bag of about 12 pound coins left over from yesterday. I knew I had to make this grow, at least so I could afford a few pints and a bite to eat after work, so the whole scenario of choosing what, where and how to play took on a whole new slant!

I knew a couple of machines should be ready after the Thursday night antics, and sure enough the one I chose (a Red) was, but without the collateral to force I had to change my strategy, taking some smallish wins and hoping my cash would hold out until it dropped a JP. The abundance of red features it was showing was beginning to attract the attention of some of the locals as well.....

Managed to get it in the end (had to settle for a straight 25 with no repeat chance, couldn't afford to risk pushing on for top feature!), but at one stage I was down to £2 and was starting to sweat a bit!

I just found the whole episode vaguely amusing, every spin was make or break towards the end, where as normally I'd be throwing quids in without batting an eyelid. Certainly made things a bit more exciting (if you can call playing a fruity exciting that is!).

Anyone else been in a similar situation where you know it's going to pay, your cash is running out, and you can feel the vultures closing in?

agreed, i find myself in a similar situation many times. The last time I started with a mere £20, firstly i played a funfair, which had been all redding still from the night before when i £75'ed it then they closed. Got the £25 sure enough and moved on to monopolys :? although they normally take a large float to play it payed off bigtime. I walked out of that location £120 up as they had all been filled the night before.

Moved around the corner to my delight i found all 3 golden games full to bursting, offering let em spins from the off, 1st 2 players i took em and on the 3rd the flash force was worth £75 of profit  . I looked a bit shifty as the place was dead and all you heard was "its golden game time!" literally every 30 secs as i was playing 2 on the cycle at once  .

Moved on and took £60 from SKR from £10, 1st spin awarded £10, gambled to the top for £25 followed up by a 35 top. DNP straight to loco hold within £3, red arrow gave stripe it rich red for a £20 top costing £12. I was on such a high i ended up forcing a bedazzled costing £65 for £30.

Moved on to another monopoly location with player 2 (1st hit) backing and offering 3 nudge feature from the off, proceeded to make £40, player 3 seemed to be going nowhere but streaked for £150ish from £130 :) on the other hand player 1 totally raped me, offering a jackpot flash  for £10 in and backing after £20. Cost me £150 for the flash which went for £25  , no doubt about it a replay was necessary. Surely? NO  cost me another £100 for £35 then another £25 + let em spins giving me a total bank of £120ish for £250 or so :? : :? : :? I then proceeded to go for it again with this being the 1st time ive ever been badly stung on one of these, cost me another £70 for a flash, went for £70 and 30 of afters which i scraped back as the place was closing. No doubt there would have been more value in it but the threats to turn it off with £70 bank was frightening.

When I start with a small float there is actually an element of fun to the game, everything is to be played carefully and so on. If you do manage to get up to a very healthy amount (£345 at my peak) then the buzz is unreal, just as well i made a few £ as id had £100 loss the day before on 'safe' machines, even backing, unchipped pcb's found some way around doing there nuts, sometimes losing up to £20 on each which is exeptionally rare in its self.

At the end of the day i came home with £160 profit, due to unconsidered bets in the casino (foolish i know :( ) in fact one spin on the roulette could have had me broke it was £30 on black, £30 on even 10 was the result thank fuck :D when your doing to well then things go pear shaped, the discipline seems to slip big time. At least it did in my case.

Call me a bullshitter but what i have said in the above paragraphs is 100% true, and im not trying to boast either simply felt i had to get it off me chest. Thanks for reading, hope i havnt bored you too much

I'm always playing on a budget, but i'm only a novice player. I def got a buzz when i got a jp off 'bully's prize board' after bout £4/5 in... I expect i had a backend of a streak, had the £1/25 lit & had to gamble & luckily won. I think ill be sticking to playing that way, cuz i find i do enjoy it. 8)

Call Me Tight Or Whatever....But If There Are More Than 10 Machines...Why Not Just Wait And Watch People (Put A Pound In Have A Press On Summet, Then Get Ure Fone Out Do A Few Txts Or Something....Then Make Your Move When You Think Its Worth It.... Or If Theres Only A Few Machines.....Or If The People Dunno What There Doing...Pretend To Advise Them And Kill Them Off The Board. Sounds Tight...But Moneys Money...

I'll call you tight as you asked coz that is.
Purposely trying to kill someone off a feature? If you go round doing that and jumping on as soon as they leave it wont be long till your whcked in the face.
Of course generally on fruit machines you have to know when its worthwhile/not playing.
BUT that is totally the wrong attitude to have.
If i see someone on a fruity lose chances are i will have a go after if i think its worth it BUT only after a certain amount of time etc.
Like if i thought they was getting change etc i wouldnt go on.

As ive said before on a matter like this there is a certain unwritten code of conduct.

You wouldnt like some twat trying to kill you off a board then getting straight on.

Yeah if I play with a restricted amount of cash I find I normally do better, probably makes me more disciplined, where when you have a float of 100 odd coins on you seem to just chuck them in like it is going out of fashion
