If a local community ALL objected to betting shops, all they'd have to do is completely boycott the place and soon enough it would close down - nationwide we could all do the same! These are BUSINESSES - they depend on customers! People in this country seem to have forgotten that we can vote not only at the ballot box but with our actions! If we all REALLY tried we could drive petrol prices down by not buying any - not practical I agree but we COULD! We have the internet now, we can use it to benefit us! PEOPLE POWER! Vote with what you spend or don't spend money on and soon enough the businesses either listen or close down. It is weakness and showing dependancy that the tyrants thrive on!

top post mog ,,,,,,, never a truer word spoken
but the masses always cave in the end
anyone ever watch the walmart documentary ,,,,,,,,,,, local businesses got there die hard customers to boycott the walmart but eventually they had to close down
i believe an episode of south park covered it more humorously

well you learn something new every day.
i thought that the roulette number was selected when you pressed the button, but apparently not; another email from the gambling commission says;
"These are the companies that evaluate the random number generating soft wear before it is released onto the market.
The winning number having already been chosen by the Random Number Generator facility when the ‘bet’ button is used. This is done to ensure a consistent speed of play and some machines store up to six ‘winning’ numbers that are then displayed in sequence. In effect, the machine has decided what the winning number will be before you place your bet so the machine looking at your selected number and landing on something close is not possible."
they can't spell either.

Interesting anonamouse. Interesting. One interesting thing the recent dispatches documentary on Channel 4 pointed out, was the funding of regulation and investigation into FOBT practices by the bookies themselves. Now I'm hardly one for believing conspiracy theories (apart from trayhop's insightful AID's revelation), but I wouldn't be surprised if the truth is being contorted to the very edge of what is legal: so as to maximise profit, whilst a thorough investigation (unlikely given the political climate) would yield only minor misdemeanour.

I was in a Paddy Power t'other day and noticed they not only had 4 FOBTs but also about 5 machines which sort of looked like they could be roulette terminals but turned out to be self service betting terminals.
It did make me wonder if they had them in just as a stop gap until the law changes so they can shove more than 4 FOBTs in a shop...
