*Latest news RE Stake/JP changes*

Post by Mattb »

It's happening this month guys.

'The DCMS has this week given the go-ahead for a stake and prize increase for gaming machines, setting in motion a flurry of activity in the UK AWP market.

Category C AWPs in licensed premises and AGCs move from 30p/£25 to a 50p/£35 configuration, while B4jackpot machines for registered clubs receive a stake increase from 50p to £1 (£250 jackpot retained). B3 jackpot games for bingo clubs also gain a stake increase from 50p to £1 and retain their £500 top prize.

The new levels become effective from October 27 and are subject to strict codes of practice. Machines must bear GamCare contact details, display clear signage prohibiting under-18s and be supervised to prevent inappropriate play.'

Wow. didn't expect it to happen so soon. When do you think we'll be seeing the first of these beasts, and will everywhere make the changes? I'm thinking not for a while as there will be no £35 JP decals for any machines at present. I also expect that's probably why there's been so few releases this year (barrign clones). Manus are already probably hard at work on the new breed of 50p/£35JP machines. I suspect the humble life of the AWP as we know it is going to have one hell of a change coming up.

Exciting timse or not? I can't decide...

50 pence a spin to win £35? haha give it up. You can pay 50p a spin and win £250 on a Section 17?

Whos going to play 50p a spin, your average munter wont play them, meaning less profit for you guys.

I think the serious fruit machine players (probably like most of us on here will still play as I still dont in reality see it making a massive difference ok probably still average £5-6 for a board with £2-3 offered back when not playing too great. Machines will take longer to save up so more blocks, even if the jackpot is £35 it doesnt mean they will streak more than £25 jackpot ones. I mean I have seen £15 jackpot machines streak more than £25 machines. ( Probably still be £70-90 natural streak otherwise flat £35 or £50 (jackpot and a bit of afters). I mean stake can be irrelevant at times as a machine needs x amount of cash to offer feature just fewer amount of spins.

I do think it will finish machines in pubs though for the casual spare change punter who would want more spins for his change from a round in.
I mean even now the fruit machines in my local pubs are just like ornaments just flash to themselves without attracting anyone

Out of interest what year/era do you think fruity's were at their peak? i.e. when probably most popular with the casual punter?

50p for a spin on AWP versus 50p for a game on SWP?????????????????? Normal people will go for the SWP every single time.
I want my money to last 2 minutes rather than 2 seconds.

No matter how much you know about AWP the amount of casual players is going to get even less.
No wonder I drink!

At least the majority of current machines will remain at £25JP(I can't see all the 2002/2003/2004 machines being upgraded, please correct me if i'm wrong)

It'll just be interesting to see what happens with the new JP machines, will they approach the upgrade like the did with £15>25 where they just changed the £15 to £25 or will they try and change gameplay.

Just imagine red features being worth £30 :D

2 spins for a pound, on a fruit machine, that's disgusting, seriously.

£1 for 3 seconds on spins and no promise for a nudge/hold/board?

or £1 for 2 sociable rounds of Bullseye or Nuts quiz.

Time to smarten up on the SWPs methinks. That or get a job :|

Think about it over the years machines have come a long way from 1p a play to 30p a play and even the section 16s which offer £10 a spin,It hasnt stopped people playing all it will take is 1 person to drop the £35 jp and this will start a chain reaction the same as it has done previously. What would be nice though is to see the smaller wins say cherries £1 doubled and i think your average feature board/win will cost between £4-£8 and if its dead or flat well it doesnt bare thinking about maybe £10-£20 per board.Anyway lets wait and see eh wonder if the hopper float will go to £350 or stay the same.

Will this mean the end for the MPU5 technology? I have no idea how this technology works at all, but if they change something like the jackpot amounts and stake, wont they need to change the hardware design of the hoppers? Which would mean a change in the gameplay, correct?

The way i see it, the quicker we can get these MPU5 machines onto an emulator the better.

I don't think there's any need to panic yet chaps. I can't see a mass change for a while, and like i said, I imagine many of the current breed of AWPs will stay at 25/30p and £25 JP. That said, some of the current AWPs already have 50p play decals on them.....but more than likely not the £35 JP one.

I'm really not sure what will happen here. Certainly the biggest shake up in years.
