I seem to recall 5 had some distinction about it being the only record to be No.1 on 2 separate occasions where the lyrics had been altered

That is right - it was the first (and I presume still the only) No. 1 to make No. 1 again with different lyrics.

Just 1. and 2. to get. A clue for 1. is that the two songs were around 4 years apart and for 2. is that it's a David Bowie song (and it seems on checking that the words are in fact slightly different in his song but I'm sure they were "inspired" by A Day in the Life at the very least!).

On number 1, one of the answers is 'Love'. Is the other 'Everything' (from 'Money')?

That's a good guess but the answer I was looking for was "Fun is the one thing that money can't buy" from She's Leaving Home. The other one is obviously "(Money) can't buy me love" as you said.

The last answer is "Young Americans", where Bowie uses the line "I heard the news today, oh boy"...

Right, that's enough of that, back to posts about how ItBoxes are destroying the world...

not disputing microbe thing which was interesting but that page says that cher is the oldest female at number one. i am pretty sure that when deborah harry released maria she was older. can anyone back me up (or shoot me down in flames ahem, just like jesse james)?

, I guess it comes down to how you define 'female singer', in the sense that Cher was a solo artist whereas Debbie Harry was the singer in a band.
