maybe compassion doesn't cut it; perhaps you need to include words like empathy, dignity, humility, self-deprecation and prudence?
nobody ever wins on those things.

The simple fact is people need to lose for you to win, unless they're a mate i don't care about them, we've all been stung on a done machine at some point, and most punters/casuals/addicts lose almost everytime anyway, they might get a bit more play if someone clued has'nt been on it and destroyed it just before they got on it, the best they can hope for is a bit of short term value, and get off it.

To me it's the difference between making a concious decision (gambling), and something happening that you didn't intend (mobile falling out of pocket).

I would hope that everyone here would hand back the mobile, it's the right thing to do.

I would also hope that everyone recognises that when an adult makes a concious decision to engage in something, then all bets are off. Rather than warn someone that they will lose on that unit, how about offer them some helpful advice that could possibly be many times more effective and hand out a GA leaflet :)

If you make a decision to do something, then you bear the responsibility for it. If the outcome is unpleasant, then learn from the experience, or forever be doomed to repeat it.

I know I sound like a harsh arsehole, but unless you get people to face their own decisions, then nothing ever changes.

I've read the first post and nothing more. Basically IMO if you wanted to tell him, you orn Martin would have suffered the brunt of Mr. Trophy and the other be able to slip away...but really in Shaun Wallace's words, it's just another day at the office.

You make me laugh Lee, if u felt that strongly about it then u would have said something, but you didn't. So u can't criticise others for saying they would have the 'tough shit' stance.

If its someone I know then yes I would, if it's a player I don't know or a casual then bad luck.

How many times over the years have we all followed other players on a machine without physically seeing them? Loads no doubt. On a ltd there's no real accurate read, you either take it on or u dont.

Tough shit I say. I'll win on more than I lose on, if it costs a ton to phone I accept it and so should he. It's the nature of that particular machine. Can and will happen to many of us on regular occurrences.

I totally agree with this post.

Lee, you can make us all out to be heartless bastards with our stance on this matter, but we aren't. Heartless would have been to let the tyres down on the blokes car, or to have had a shit on the back seat while he was busy losing anything up to a ton.

You are being soft here.

I'm also pretty sure that you have said many times how its everyone for themselves, and have preached that nobody is forced to gamble, therefore players shouldn't feel guilty about winning other peoples money etc.

All rather contradictory in my opinion.

That said, I can recall MANY times when someone has advised me not to play the machine because it has paid out.

Then the first coin drops down the back, and the machine is flying....

Put yourself on in time a hour and your passing opposite ways. Does he tell you he's done it I doubt it so not really a tough decision is it

99% of players are greedy - with some extremely greedy to the extent of cuntishness. Lee seems different to them, and well done for being so. Slag the guy off all you want if it makes you feel better. Just don't moan if you get the rough end of the stick in future.

If he'd of asked I'd of told him, but I wouldn't have gone out my way back inside the pub to tell him.

If he'd got enough in his locker to clock you, he'd have just tested the water and walked, If I was suspicious I wouldn't get involved in a LTD that's not full. Just not worth the time/risk.

Good post.

The 'victim' only has himself to blame for getting involved.

A few years ago I was in a club chasing a Dracula, ran out of money, asked the staff to keep an eye on it for 5 mins while I ran to the bank. They agreed, but said after 5 mins anyone was entitled to play it. Fair enough. As it was I was gone about 20 mins, got back, machine still full but different reels. Machine was still playing well, but wasn't giving super double.... after about £50 back in I looked at the meters and realised it had been refilled for £100... someone had took a cheeky ton and they'd floated it. It took £130 to see super double again, I wasn't happy but more with myself because I should have checked.

If people ask I will tell them, but I won't go chasing after them to warn them. There is a club I go to when I'm in the area that has a Slam, and a Mazooma bag of shit. A bloke used to come in once or twice a week and lose anything up to £300 in it, then leave. Sometimes when he came in he'd see me and ask whether i'd won, i'd tell him not to bother with it. The problem is that he'd then just lose his money in the other machine, which was no use to me, as it was a shit game.

One day i'd just done the Slam and was sat over the other side having a celebratory drink when the man came in. I thought that if he sees me he'll ask, and i'm not prepared to lie. So I sneaked out the back unnoticed. A few hours later I wandered past and he was playing it, so I went back in to wait for it....

Some may call me a greedy cunt, I call it common sense.

As it happens the man in question was stealing from work to fund his habit, and got sent down for a year. I felt a twinge of guilt, but nobody forced him to gamble.

Right?

yeah ive always said , nobody forces a gun to peoples heads etc

but im allowed to feel bad for people.
