i had a non-clearance 1682 yesterday and the barmaid was a charming young Hungarian.
anyway a couple of scores: aside from the drab MILLIONAIRES, QUIZZING and a few pleasing 10s,
1808 tyburn, marble arch MEESKITE
1850 hogshead, mayfair MEESKITE
1893 lord moon of the mall, traf sq MEESKITE
but the most elegant word i got was HEREUNTO
i was on a course and stumbled upon some new machines in DAVE JON territory.
the metropolitan is a JDW near baker street tube some selct DJ scores:
1811
(another) QUINTESSENTIALLY
JUXTAPOSITIONS
and; this is phenomenal: APPROXIMATIONS
they hadn't made it to the allsop arms nearby but a new name for the leaderboards: JARS with 1842, EMBEZZLES and GODLESSNESS.
for my part the only game i had which troubles the scorers is 1823 including PEPPERMINTS at the north star on finchley road. (i reverted to ISTENEM). good weekends all.
Have sensibly limited retirement from Word Up to those moments when not playing it, I went for a wander in London town after work this evening...
Found a nice little pub tucked away round off of Oxford Street - The Green Man on Riding House St. Word Up (1st edition) well frequented, seemingly by yet another new crew - this time leaving only names ending in 'OUT' eg. TITS OUT, GUSSET OUT etc etc - I heartily approved. All scoreboard places were owned by the crew (inc. 2 clearances) before my arrival and the ensuing five clearances that knocked them into 6th (plus two QUIZZICALs to flatten hi-score word opposition).
Found a Sum Up off Oxford Circus, in The Old Explorer. Hyena top with a 2300ish good effort before 2534 toppled him.
Also knocked MEESKITE off the top with a 1863 in a Hogs Head reasonably close to Oxford Circus. Lots of HULL HULL scores there too - the site of many a tussle, it seems.
cah. get orrrf moi laaaand. fringes of moi laaaand but it is my most recent pseudonym.
the lure of WU too strong for the overeducated. good to see VB back on the scene after a temporary hiatus. aside from the beer money on SWP how is he earning his crust?

freelancing in a nebulous and generally unhelpful 'project management' stylee.
Did Slough today - only a couple of HYENAs, the rest utterly pre-owned by 'NIK', including some 1600s clearances. Eventually deposed him on all total score boards before running back home. Hope I don't have to go back there again soon.
That's me now officially addicted to Word Up. Even went down the local today, ignored the puggie and made a beeline straight for the Word Up machine in the corner.
But what's the story with missing words? I can understand words like quo not being there (as in status quo), but what about words like zen, ben, het etc... ?
