A good friend of mine is an ex-heroin addict.
It took years of chemical aided rehab to kick it.
plus she had a child with another addict.
She managed to get clean without any harm to her daughter and has been clean about 8 years now. She's a drugs councilor with professional qualifications.
The father wasn't so lucky and OD'd in suspicious circumstances a couple of years ago.
I know a few others that survived that world and many other who are still stuck in it.
I'm glad I've never had to deal with an addiction like that where it's literally life or death.
I was on a First Aid course a couple of years ago. at the end of the course we were shown a series of photos and asked to give a suggested first response. One picture was of a guy in a toilet cubical with a needle in his arm and someone's first response was "shut the door and leave them, serves them right."
Took every ounce of control I had not to knock his head off. Addiction is a serious business and it turns decent human beings with parents, siblings, partners and kids into wrecks. People find it a lot easier to demonise people with addictions than to empathise with them.
Gambling is no exception and everyone here should constantly look at their own behaviour as honestly as they can, because I'm sure there are a lot of people here who think of themselves as serious pros but are actually problem gamblers who should be packing the game in.

I like your post Pete, but if that addiction pushes someone to mug old ladies or rob from their families then that is a whole different ball game. I honestly know addicts who would die in a corner before they would hurt an old lady, and I believe that quality is born in you, anyone who chooses the other path, fuck em.
how about a greasy pork sandwich served in a dirty ashtray.

if somebody wants to take drugs , practice witchcraft , self mutation , gamble till potless , drink themselves legless ,,,,, whatever it is , in the privacy of their own home ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and if this affects the lives of NOBODY else ,,,if NOBODY else suffers as a direct result of your chosen lifestyle ,,,and/or they dont have any children/dependants that rely on the money spent on said lifestyle ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, then go ahead ,,,,, knock yourselves out and enjoy.
but when it affects children/family ,,,,,,,,, or you have to steal to fund your chosen lifestyle ,,,,,,,, then FUCK EM indeed ,,,,,,,,, SCUM of the earth too right.
