Compliant Games

I have a friend with his fingers inside of the industry. He tells me that all developers have been asked to remake games to comply with the recent HMRC recommendations, and that in most cases (including Word Soup) this has already been done: These games are being tested and will soon hit the market place.

This would seem to me to be a major event, how are games we have grown accustomed to going to alter, and how will they then play? Somebody on this forum must know.............

Well I wonder if something like 'None of the above' reported in a previous thread would be compliant?

It seems to be albeit you would need to answer around 60 questions correctly to win a £1 and a few more for the tenner. Probably not a problem for the top boys but tedious and where will the money come from to pay out the top boy earnings?

It seems to me that more compliant games must surely represent an opportunity for the very best but to protect themselves would surely have to be too difficult to keep joe public interested.

Two tensions that on the face of it would seem more difficult to resolve than ever unless they take a huge gamble and savagely change the payout percentages on SWPs. There must be some sort of Laffer curve type analysis to be done here and I cannot believe the answer lies at 30%.

HMRC or rather the people within the organisation within it who are looking at it are dicks if what I have been told is true and their is no reason for me to doubt my source.
Any reference within a game to a fruit machine or casino type games will have to be deleted and it seems likely that games will advertise what the stakes will be but not the jackpot.What sort of logic is that?

I note that a pub has recently had its rateable value re-assessed due to the tenants making a go of it and their business rates have increased by
more than double.Having worked in rates for 6 years before my departure into swp's 84-90 I simply dont understand the incentive for businesses if the government is going to take a monster cut for doing nothing.

Wonder if "Top Prize" is allowed instead of Jackpot.

Anyway, hopefully with the number of DONDs out there, this will now be viewed as a gambling game (which when thinking about it is all the TV show really is as well) and we'll see the last of it on a quizzer.

I think the new guidelines say that the top prize must be stated and has to be theoretically winnable in every single game.

I think this will ruin most word and skill games. Under the guidelines, a game of Pub Quiz with 12 spoilers in each of the first 3 rounds would be acceptable but if the £10 is unachievable on Word Up this would be considered "fraudulent".

Perhaps there is no way to resolve this and that's why certain companies are giving up

Did I read that they're getting rid of elements where the player has no chance of winning? eg, bonus on PMP being game over x 4. Ok, there's still in not taking the bonus I guess, but it'll occasionally give you 3 bonuses to choose from...
