Questions - and answer lists??

Hi everyone! I am new here.

I have read through the forums and noticed there are examples of questions and answers where mistakes have obviously been made by the programmer/question devisor. However, I was wondering if anywhere had a list of questions with answers. As the same questions tend to pop up, if you know the answers to some of the more obscure questions, your chances of winning increase.

What I'd like to see is a website where people can contribute lists of questions and answers for specific games on the quiz machines. I am considering trying to setup such a website and venture myself if nothing similar already exists (have tried google.) I am guessing most people would be against such a list - but think about it - not everyone who uses these machines uses the internet. Most have a pint and fill it up with their money. If a few people (who share the questions and answers with each other) go in with a clear head who have revised a big list of questions and answers then this is not everyone and the machines won't be emptied all the time.

Just a few thoughts anyway

That sounds like a good idea but i think there are a hell of a lot of different questions and they're often asked in different ways so sitting at a quiz machine with a list of every questions would be difficult especially with the amount of time you have to answer you'd probably time out before even finding the particualr question, and what would the barman think when you walk in with a stack of paper with all the q's on?

Although if you can organise it 'good on ya' and i'd be happy to contribute

I was thinking of it as more of sort of a "revision list"

so hopefully when you see the question - you remember the answer

I'll see if a few other people reply and think about how to set it up. Just thinking of maybe a forum and a standard HTML page - as opposed to a wiki.

We have had a few answer sheets posted here. The best was for Football Crazy which led to the game vanishing.

It would be a great idea to have a website of all the right answers but a lot of the people here are a bit shy to post their results.

When this has been tried before people have been relucant to participate.

Naturally the persons who are the best players on a particular game are reluctant to share anything with anyone. And recording questions, researching answers and writing them up is too much hassle for many.

I think it could be some help if it concentrated on particular machines and not the sort question the people would know anyway eg Millionaire or Deal spoilers.

It would only be of very limited value on limited payout psudo-skill games like say Bullseye

Yes - I guess I dreampt this idea up while playing the game and keeping on getting those questions that killed me off just before getting to the money round in deal or no deal (and also noticing I got some of the same questions again and again) - I couldn't help thinking "what if I knew the answers" - but yes I can see why someone who knows more than me might not want to tell someone like me the secrets (if I don't know I should just keep losing etc). It is possible thatgiving such information will not affect skilled player's winnings or performance. In fact it may force game makers to introduce new questions (when they realise they are getting too easy and the machines are paying out above their 30%) and so on which would only favour such skilled people

I was hoping to have lists for games where merely the answers determing getting to the prize (so skilled games). Such as Deal or No Deal, Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, Millionaire and so on.

Maybe we should start a systematically ordered database of quiz questions in general.

Heh, it's a great idea in theory, and I'm sure we've discussed it before. The only feasible way (and you'd have to be bloody quick!) would be to have it all stored in a simple database on a palm top (or similar) that you could access 'real time' whilst playing the machine. We then dismissed this, as it'd be very tight to tap in your search criteria and locate the correct answer within the usual alloted time limit.

Also, winning a tenner off a quizzer is not much cop if you drop your palm top in yer pint!

Is it not also feasible to have a revision list?

Ok an easy question here as an example.

Which team won the ashes in 2005?
a) England
b) Australia
c) It was a draw

If you was unlucky enough not to know the answer to the above question, but had read a list of questions and answers telling you that England won, then your chances of getting that question right if it comes up on the machine have just increased.

I am not sure how this would work online - the closest I can think to what you mean is a wiki where it is created, organised and edited by the users.

Questions could be ordered something like - by game - by topic

Example - Deal or No Deal - Sport

Agreed, a revision list would be a good idea. A 'spoiler' list would be ideal! Although these will be harder to recall...

On a side note, I was after a list of questions and their answers for a quiz game I'm programming, although no-one has found anything yet. Looks like i better get typing...

That was another thought I had - use the questions as the basis for a game so you can practice without paying. However I don't have the programmng skills myself.

You may be able to find a list of questions in something like a quiz bot for IRC or DC++ for example.

That's a good idea! I could take care of the programming side, and just make a simple game that I could upload for us lot to 'revise' from.

If anyone does want to start work on a question and answer list, it'll need to be in a format that is similar across the board.

Without getting to in detail at the mpment in case no-one starts providing questions, for each ? we'd at least need:

- Game Name
- Question Text
- Answer A
- Answer B
- Answer C
- Answer D
- Correct Answer Letter

Are there any games that provide more than four answers to pick from? I know the majority is 3, but of course, Millionaire is 4.

Example:

- Millionaire
- Who was Oliver Hardys famous screen partner?
- Barry Bethal
- Charlie Chaplin
- Stan Laurel
- Howard Marx
- C

We'd also need to agree that 'game name' field is structured so that all questions from say Bullseye are indeed titled Bullseye throughout, and not Bully, Bullseye, Bull etc.

So, what does everyone (who's interested) think?

A quick way of finding questions in a palm-top might be via some kind of code based on category, sub-category etc.

E.g.
SPORT > CRICKET > ASHES > 2005

Each sub-category would have a short code, so maybe this question becomes coded: SpCrAs05 or something.

I am currently looking into installing some sort of wiki on my existing domain name and webspace to see if that would work well for the purpose of letting people add questions etc (not that experienced with this sort of stuff

)

If lots of questions are acquired I could spend a little time putting them in the format required for some sort of game

I like the idea of maybe just 10-15 wide categories at the start of a screen, then selecting that takes you to the next list (clearing the old one) and so on - with a clear button to take you back to the start. But this would be well in to the future after we have a list of questions
