Barcrest .. Nothing on Alpha display at all can anyone help?

Post by ju-ju-7 »

I have a Barcrest fruit machine and i have switched it on and the Alphanumeric display shows nothing at all!! Bought a new display and still nothing. I have taken the MPU4 out and as usual battery has leaked and gone over tracks that go under and a few other components. I have followed the tracks and they seem to go to the connector for the display but have checked them with the meter and seem fine. The battery seems to still be giving the correct voltage. Whatdoes the battery do and what would happen if play with no battery? The machine can be played fine so everything else seems to be working. if anyone has any idea what i can do to repair the board or has anyone ever come acros this problem with blank display before?
Thanks

the battery holds the memory for the percentage,You can play it ok without one,it would just be generous, but when you switch it off and on it would lose its memory and start the cycle all over again.

just had that fault on my mpu 4 mod 4 board turned out that the chip to the seg display had gone, changed that and got the display back so check ic32 its a 2803 it might be the cause
to the damege of the board by the battery i'd take the board out and give it the sarsons treatment
as to your leaking battery change it the longer you leave it in the more damage it will cause

Thankyou for your reply , I have looked at ic 32 but that seems to go to the large pin at the top. My display connects to PL 7 DISPLAY When i follow the tracks from that plug they kead under the battery. Have checked all these tracks and they seem to be fine with no resistance.
Thanks for the message about the battery that explains a few things. As it has keaked i shal not bother buying a new one unless i can fix the board. Can you buy the ics with the program already programmed into the chip?
Kind regards

whats your machine called forgot to ask
you can get the replacement chips that are on the mpu4 all are preprogrammed at manufacture the only one that need to be programmed would be your eprom chips but they are on your gamecard and as the machine is playing ok bar the display they are ok
have you checked to see if you have +12v at pin 7 (tp3) pin 6 is 0v earth

Thanks for the advice. I have now narrowed it down to being the game card that is not working properly i also think it is to do with the BCA 0.1 chip on the card. Does any one know what this is and how i would get a replacement? Is this the chip that actually contains the game programe or is it just a driver chip or pr programmed chip with a certain programme like display driver or something. My game card is the larger t shaped style with numerous chips that can be taken out of the cradel some of the other chips are : CAC 0.1 SND P1, CAC 0.1 SND P2 , ICV3 , M576 , IC11V4 , IC12V3 , and of cause the BCA 0.1 chip that i need to replace Thanks
