pub banning the saga continues
the arguement I have put forward before to fruit chatters is that it is different to take £100 from one game with a jackpot of £20 then 5 x £20 jackpots from different games.Quiz machines have in general ridiculously small hoppers, for example an open previously with a selection of 100 games had a hopper in general holding around £70 and so does a games warehouse unit when it has games that have offered a £50 jackpot such as a poker game.
There are generally two types of pro,the piecemeal player who is better than the average player but not particularly outstanding at any game, who plays a large selection of games, the individual amount taken from each game is not massive but by the end of the session theyve built up a kings ransom and the other type who learn a couple of games inside out back to front, games where there is no way the computer can manipulate the outcome(games like this are few and far between).
The first type is for the low risk takers and is almost recession proof. The 2nd type can be highly profitable but is not without risks, taking months learning the thing then it gets adapted or disappears altogether.
Of course 2nd type is more likely to get banned.
However it is unlikely that anybody has milked the itbox as the selection of games is poor.If an Itbox runs out it is likely to have a small float or be poorly maintained.Take what Quizmaster says on this occasion with a pinch of salt.If he only takes £15 a machine what does he do with a £20 jackpot run the credits down.

I agree with Cool's characterisation of the two types of player - I'm far more the first type. I certainly haven't ever set myself a win target from a machine in the way QM describes - I begin playing, play the games I want to play over anything up to the next hour or so, and take what I have at the end of the session, be that £5 or £50 (or even on a few machines lately, a £5 loss).
I don't think the risk of a banning is remotely enough to voluntarily forgo achievable money that might be available. Whilst recognising that I'm not at the standard of some users of this forum, I've only been banned once in my time of playing, while massacring a virgin Open machine in a particularly rough estate pub in London, and whilst I felt I'd been very unfairly treated at the time, posters are right to say it's an occupational hazard and not one worth throwing the toys out of the pram over. Even given the declining numbers of pubs and (at the moment) particularly playable titles, there are plenty of pubs out there.

I take the attitude that when a large amount of money is readily available, I'm just taking it. It's not necessarily going to be there next time. In any case, unless you're being eagle-eye watched, it's often possible to take >£50 quite discreetly, and if you feel the need to appease the landlord, a second drink or a meal will usually do. Bans were much more common when caning the old standalone machines.
Suffice to say...no let me start all over, Istenem is reading.
Suffice it to say, I have never won a sizeable sum on a quiz machine. If I win £3 on By Any Means, that usually calls for a congratulatory lick. #
So, are they like AWPs? £5er a time, or does it dump the whole lot?
Often if I get a big bank on an AWP from no where, I find myself collecting a bit and waiting two minutes pressing change stake before collecting more. Two minutes feels like two hours when not playing, yet two hours can feel like two minutes when playing.
I did win £13 on Coronation Street once, £10 spot prize(!!) + £3 on the ladder (clone of JPM's Hangman) - chunked the whole lot out, £6 on six shooter and £5 on Pub Quiz. Normally though it's £1-£3.

it i like old boy.
each cabinet has a different payout mechanism: the best for going under the radar is the gamesnet which cough out two at a time. although it does take ages to get your prize, the people in the pub don't hear any clattering.
(when behaving) paragons pay out everything in a quick torrent which makes for an almighty racket unless you have a glove, newspaper etc.
itboxes payout through a filter of cobwebs but again in one go and the internal mechanism clunks around like an old banger. you invariably have 20% of your winnings stuck somewhere in the chute though.
ind:es pay out everything at once but the payout tray is already cushioned/inclined so it is not comparatively noisy.
dice terminals have a nice mechanism whereby you get three coins at a time and they cascade around the machine like old bagetelle machines.

nobody ever wins on those things.
In the wake of Quizmasters Litten Tree allegations I must report another banning!

played machine for ages getting stuck on it.Bursting for the loo.
Finished playing.Asked if I was one of those people who go from pub to pub.Replied in the affirmative.Landlady bright red and angry!
said I was ruining it for locals (meaning ruining her profits) then said I was a cheat as I had the temerity to learn the questions.Presumably she would have a problem with any academic achievement and prefer us all to be peasants working small holdings. She should be transported over to Cambodia in the time of Pol Pot where she would fit in very well.Said no matter what I said or did I could not convince her I was honest.Parallel of Bush V Hussein.
Despite one local doing his best to support me given the order of the boot.
If anybody knows a lawyer who is willing to represent me in a case of slander no win no fee for being called a cheat in front of customers by an ignorant publican please let me know!
And whoever replies get over it probably isnt or is ever going to be good enough to be get called one!

This thread brings back memories....To us oldies banning really was an occupa\tional hazard in the 80's.
It's all based on the landlords belief that you must be cheating if you can "win". I'll swear that they were "sold" these machines on the basis nobody would win on them.
The landlords could really be put into three categories:
The Agressive: Characterised by their use of weapons as in chased out of a Chinese Take Away in Mansfield by "cook" wielding machete type sharp instrument. Our "crime"? Winning £10.00 out of a fruit machine quiz machine
The "This machine is for regulars only": No not seen in Royston Vasey but in pubs from Carlisle to Sutton Bridge. Once risked a type 1 intervention by stating that we came regularly to visit about once a month so that was sufficient. In a pub in Alfreton (Derbyshire) we were advised that we could drink but not play so we had a quick word in the shell like of a local. He played, we gave him the answers and 30 minutes later split the profit in the Gents.
The "I can get to my machine from behind the bar to turn it off before you can": The funniest by far. Often resulting in a feat of gymnastics which was known to include vaulting the bar or limbo-ing under the hatch.
Some landlords had even been known to tug at the heart strings with a long tearful explanation of how they made no money in their beer/pickled eggs so the profits from the "quizzer" kept their heads above water....
The phenomenon does seem to have died out since the advent of multi-game machines.
There really is no way round it though if it does happen. Landlord's right is might

Well if you start telling the the landlady what you are up to what do you expect? LOL At least you have the consolation that the Enterprise Inn's estate consists largely of shit-holes that don't make any money. So within a year the landlady will probably be bankrupt and they will have found another mug to run it LOL.cool wrote:In the wake of Quizmasters Litten Tree allegations I must report another banning!
