Golf Betting : the only show in town

Post by explayer »

Hello everyone , until 2 or 3 years ago i used to play and lose on Fruit Machines , horses , dogs , football and anything i could have a guess at. I got started playing on Golf tournaments and gradually cut out the mug punting until now i have reached the point where i play the occasional Quiz machine ( small wins ) and serious betting on Golf ( large wins, on a regular basis that i have never had before betting on racing etc ). I wonder if people play the golf , i honestly find that you can get a good run for your money , at the very least , from huge price players , 50/1 , 66/1 , 100/1 and upwards. In a horse race a 100/1 shot is a no-hoper , in Golf tournaments they are serious runners well in the top half of the betting. Of course there are 156 runners in a tournament , but you can eliminate many of them ( hopefully! ) , and i go in with 3 or 4 players each tournament for £10 each way. I can honestly say that i consistently make a profit , even if the long losing runs are frustrating , one winner transforms your fortunes. You have to accept that winners are few and far between , but the key to making a profit is finding regular top 5 finishers therefore making a profit even if you lay out 3 or 4 bets in the tournament. I never bet under 40/1 , or 10/1 a place , so i know one place makes a profit whatever happens. I would be interested in a discussion on this and i may post my selections ( and bets ) on here on a Wednesday night so people can judge my picks. Thanks all.

I bet on golf heavily also. Not quite the same logic as yourself but similiar.

Reasonably in front after a couple of seasons.

I agree. Most tournaments Tiger is 7/4 and Mickelson can be 4 or 5/1.

72 holes of golf is long run and 1 - just 1 bad shot can put you out of it.

On the final day of any tournament there will always be at least 1 40 or 50/1 shot in the running. The hard part is picking which one!!!

thanks for the replies guys , sort of confirms my view that there are not many of us about , but that we can turn a profit - i was away for a couple of days last week and did not make pick out some bets for the Mallorca tournament but Garcia was 9/2 top price and Fasth 10/1 second fav and both came nowhere , so i'm kicking myself a bit as i would have had 3 or 4 against those two. Ross is right that there is always an outsider in contention on the final afternoon , and i like to think i can occasionally find the right one ! - will post selections on Wednesday night , and lets share thoughts.

well to try to prove the point , what does everyone make of this weeks 3 tournaments? - i must admit i am not keen on smaller fields such as the Volvo and Singapore events this week , far less dead wood to sort through - this week i have 3 selections in the Children's Miracle event in the U.S , as a rule i prefer to go in ' mob handed ' on one event rather than spread bets across different tournaments - i have backed Austin at 50/1 , Palmer at 100/1 and Kelly at 50/1.

Agree with Austin - he overpriced in my view and good value.

I prefer to lay rather than back so I've gone for Mickelson and Singh in Sinagapore and Harrington + Stenson in the Volvo.

No short prices in the US so I'll avoid.
