Barcrest Neptunes Treasure

Post by MasterIce »

Hello all,

Hope you can help me out you guys.
I know quite a bit about fruit machines, from residential expeirence, but not sure what the problem here is.

OK, the machines is Barcrest's 1999 machine; Neptunes Treasure.
Set to 80%, 10p per play and £5 jackpot, just intended for a lite game for a friend of mine.

Runs on a MPU5 (as you probably know, just didnt wanna miss anything out)

Well i got to turn it on, and we get no lamps, no screen display, but an alarm condition as it shouts "HEY, CHECK IT OUT... HEY, CHECK IT OUT", so i open the top door, the noise stops just for a second (as the door open initialises.. then it begins again)...

On checking the machine.. i found a lead not in properly on the MPU5, so i pushed that in, turned on.. still the same thing.. so i checked even more, and found that the hopper wasnt even connected!

(This is all from when it was given to me, and it was working when i saw it, and now i go to play it, its in the state)

As i havent worked on barcrest before, i was a bit unsure where it was to plug into..
i found a port it was laying next to, its on a board just behind the reels.. (is this right?)..

But it was the wrong connector for this port  The wires come out of the hopper, and there are 7 wires wired to the connector (PINS), with quite a few spare pins on the connector, and this connector wont go on the port i found as that is also pins, and obviously, pins wont go onto pins.

I have searched everyway near by for a port that this is supposed to plug into, but everywhere is PINS, and im starting to wonder if the connector on the hopper is supposed to be the HOLES type, and if this hopper goes to this machine AT ALL!

I hope i havent confused anyone, as ive confused myself.

Basically, the hopper isnt plugged into the board, could this be whats making the error? If so, where does it plug? Is this the right plug?

One last thing the status LEDs are as follows:
HALT LIGHT - OFF
STATUS LIGHT - GREEN, THEN 5 RED FLASHES, THEN GREEN, THEN 5 RED...
ALL THE POWER LEDS ARE SOLID GREEN

Hope you guys can make any sence of it all,

Cheers!
Regards and best wishes,
Lee

Hey,

Thanks for your reply, but as i mentioned, the hopper isnt even connected as it seems to have the wrong connector plug on it

Can anyone spread any light on to where i could get the proper connector for the 'PAYOUT' plug on the MPU5, and how many wires are supposed to be comming from the hopper, to that plug and where on the plug

Or a service manual would be great

Cheers,

The alarm will be going off as the hopper wire isn't connected from the hopper to the motherboard. seeing as you say the lights and screen don't light up i can only think that more than one wire isn't connected to the motherboard or they aint in the right places

If needed i can take a pic so you can work out where the wires should go

If you unclip the program card from the MPU5...there is a colour chart on the MPU stating exactly where each plug should go!
Simple!
Needless to say...the cable won't stretch very far so it should be fairly simple!

Thanks for your reply but..

Even still, a picture would be better.

I have already seen the colour chart under the program card, and yes they all co-ordinate to the colours, and if i remember correctly there was one or two that were in the correct place in terms of how far it will strech but a different colour to on the chart. But they went to the right places.

So if they are in the same as the chart.. must be something else? :(
Any ideas? :?

Hi it's been a while since I graced you all with my presence.........

I read your story and felt sorry lol it's quite a hard fault to figure, your mpu5 is fine, infact all your parts are fine apart from the mux board which controls the lamps.

This board is fused so maybe its only blown.

Oh yeah I better tell you where the board is located.....

Front opener on the main glass middle of.

This should help you.

If you need me PM me I check daily :)

In answer to your PM Questions.

The hopper plug should be brown in colour it fits on the MPU5 at the mid right. The alpha and lamps run from the same +volts thus the display won't work and all you will receive is an annoying "check it out" but as you say with no alpha you cant tell what the fault is.

Im 100% sure that the mux5 is faulty, try this open the front and apply power then looks @ the mux5 the status code will be the same as the code from the MPU5.

Hope this helps you :)

Hey,

cheers for that info.

OK well i will have a look on tuesday, to find the MUX5.

You mentioned the error codes (via the LEDs), i have the sequence that was displayed written down, but because i do not have the serivce manual, i dont know what it is telling me.

Also, thanks for the info on the payout plug. The plug on the hopper is 100% not the right one, its red and is the opersite type to the MPU5 plugs. Could anyone tell me which wires from the hopper go where on the plug on the MPU5? So that i can get it sorted.

Once again, thanks for the info and hope you can still help.

Best thing to do now if its still broken...
look in the yellow pages for a local, independant machine operator (ie NOT crown, gamestec or leisure link or similar), give them a call and ask if someone could come and take a look at it. They'll prob charge about £20 for a call-out + parts!
Some things are just better off seen rather than being described by someone inexperienced like yourself....£10 says the guy would have a 90% chance of fixing it on the spot with no parts required!

I've had a good long think about all of this, sorry it has taken nearly two years, but your best bet would be to give it a bit of a shake, switch it off, shake it again and then switch it back on.
