Yes; Mat's views are too harsh: Dave joined the forum for the explicit purpose of discussing his new Open machine and as such I think it's a bit much accusing him of bias towards that format. I'm with Nil Satis: I've found his observations to be most interesting, and I hope that we've helped him understand his new product. Dave, if I'm going to be in the Oldham, I'll drop you a line! It could be the official SWPists pub - you could try to get one of each!

irl my job is to be suspicious and fussy, so, to only use CAPS when you are talking about OPEN (which might be an acronym) is fishy. either way i don't care, we are all cagey in our own way.

pleased you are on this board WS. you are very welcome, and hello to the industry folk. we know who you are: 15 posts in three years?

Hi

Just to explain the percentages next to the games are the percentage of overall plays on the machine out of all the games played.

imo 51% on just five games seems quite weighted. especially since i've never been able to find WU on one of these gismos.

but interesting data WS, thanks.

I thought too Istenem - what's Super 11s when it's at home? Not a quiz game I take it?

Super 11s is a card game, similar in look to triple towers but cards are cleared by selecting exposed cards that add up to 11.

I would imagine the weighting towards a small selection of games is largely due to the menu system, games that are on the standard home screen are sure to get more play.

I did come across one the other day that had word soup on the main screen and word up in the similar game list.

Not that I've seen it, but is Super 11 similar to that old 'Megatouch' (lol) game with the pool balls, whereby you had to make combinations that add up to 11 to clear the 'board'? Admittedly, very much like civ77 said. :)

My skill at being able to 'add at light speed' certainly improved from wasting time on that, albeit if it has only helped when I need to erm, quickly make 11 from something. lol

Hi

Yep super 11's is as u say a card game whereby the cards have to add to 11 then they disappear revealing other cards exposed behind - clear the screen.

Word Soup is on my main screen as I play it every morning to make sure the screen is calibrated correctly - not very good at it though - my high score is around 1100.

As has been stated - the menu system is not the best in the world - which explains why those 4 games account for so many plays.

Ive had an email from Fatspanner saying new update cd due in 2 weeks - hope this includes a new menu system.

Also I hope it updates the Fantasy Football as mine says 07/08 season and as the next update wont be due until next Feb it will look slightly out of date if not - and I hope it fixes the Pub Quiz fault - it still crashes even on the new pc they sent so obviously a programming bug. I have had to remove the game from the machine.

It's a pretty decent 'pure quiz' game (i.e. no extraneous skill element) but your ordinary punters may find it too hard to be of much interest, particularly if none of them have PhD's in Religious Studies!

played an open for the first time in months over lunch. i had lost £6 before my food arrived (cold as it happens but that is by the way).
the games menu is so counterintuitive; in fact it is stupid. i played through various pseudo wordgames trying to get pointed towards something enjoyable or with free money to no avail. eventually i stumbled on space quest which then led me to splashy cash so i played them. all in all £5 down which is pretty hopeless.

where i am in London there is plenty of choice of pubs and therefore machines so i can easily go next door. next time i will. sorry open but the interface is too annoying and i can't be bothered to do all that login nonsense.
