Maximum Overdrive, Ace Cash Raider
Not to completely hijack the thread, but christ wasn't Cash Raider tight? It must've landed on that '?' that triggered the Gregorian chant more times than any other square. Very rare to get any super / mega features via the blue / red vikings. Although to be fair, if you had half hour to kill, you could probably recycle a tenner or so for that time. Just boring for the majority of us though.

Maximum Overdrive was a touch better, unless it was in 'Fast Cash Jumps' mode. You could almost get a fiver every board for a while. It was almost impossible to get the Overdrive streak as well as JP would auto-nudge in etc.

Another one that was pretty poor, was 'Quantum Leap' which had the three columns; KOs, Cash, Nudges, and you hi/lo'd your way up the board. Trouble is, KOs and Cash were essentially the same as the number of KOs would generally only give you the cash amount that was on the same 'level'. The only good thing on this one was getting feature number 11 off of the 'open features' bonus; Accelerator, which was a 'H-O-T-S-H-O-T type skillstop. (I think holding down a certain button slowed it right down, not cancel though.)

G-Force - that was another JPM that was a roller-coaster-esque machine, but almost always £3 then death.

Powerspin - that was more like it, still no Caesar's or Impulse, but with a bit of thought you could snare a JP.

Force-10 - Liked this one too at the time, but now playing it on the emulator, I realise it was a bit tighter than my rose-tinted Ray-Bans would suggest. ;)

Anyone for a JPM thread? ;)

You're not wrong Mattv, Fash Cash was a great little earner on Maximum Overdrive. Hitting £5 was almost a given plus hitting the £10 or £15 wasn't exactly a rarity, and when you consider it was more or less £3 per board, the 'roll em' on grapes instantly put you on Fast Cash after the gamble, good profit was forthcoming.

I also took the bottom feature on Superbreakout just for the milk of an easy £5 or £10.

These days we have an epidemic of DOND's which are totally devoid of originality and fun. :(

Yeah the red bar/cherry/yellow bar set-up on the middle reel on these was quite handy. Dire games otherwise, memorable only for the infamous Ted Rogers '321' exit - 3-higher-2-lose extra life-higher-1...

Never really played MO as there were none in my area, maybe they weren't as bad as Sonic...

And yes Matt, those Cash Raiders were nigh on impossible to get decent wins off. Good for killing time but that's about it.

Ah, Super Breakout / Coliseum Cash / Golden Game - good for a fiver off that bottom feature 'most' of the time. Whilst waiting for the 'super' board. I'm sure I even recall a 54321 out on one of these. No lose on a 5 - lower gave me a 4, had an extra life, higher than that gave a 3, had an extra ball, higher than that gave me a 2 (and took my ball), higher than that gave a 1! Can't remember whether it's life / extra ball first or second. lol

These 'could' yield tidy profits (red hiddens - Block Buster on SB, can't remember it on CC / GG), first feature, super board. But could sting and sting for ages. Never a force! :)

Matt there was an emptier on FORCE 10

get the reverse barcode triple, double, single and its the (super) feature wwhere the cash goes up in pairs it goes to 760 760, which is obviously £15.20, then it flashes away down to £15. unregistered winner, pain in the arse to get but once u get going it'll start flying.
Works on Wild West ACE as well.
Can remember the code though

Strange that, I was just playing the emu on Wild West.

Nice, I never knew that lol! Have to experiment on the emulator. Did they both go up to £7.60 quite easily?

I did hear about it on Wild West, but never saw one in the wild, and the emulator version never seemed to offer it. lol :)

I remember the wild west clue though I made a hash of it at first; was doing ok on it in the quicksilver go Folkestone then it rolled the sevens in and gave two repeats. Shit! I thought. That screwed that right up. Then got told the next day that this was all part of the empty. Not wanting to lose face, I blamed it on someone else.

Ah, sounds like Wizard of Odds / Hiho Silver.

I once lost over a ton in one of these trying to force :o ops: :o ops: and never got the jackpot. I'm sure it's this machine that I had one worse than the scenario named above.

2 squares away from jackpot with an extra life, a no lose gamble and a 9 on the board.

Higher - 10

Lower - 11

Lower - 12

It was only a fecking 10 quid jackpot :(

EDIT: Oops. Just seen MV's tale of woe which surpasses mine.

Force 10

Post by oldskool »

I remember being sure I had sussed a way to empty that bugger.
I ended up dropping over £100in one, which was the most I had ever dropped in an AWP back then.

Few weeks later I found out how you could empty it (plugging) and "got personal" whenever I found one of these.

Yes they could be pitiful games, particularly on low %s. It's good to remember this breed of JPMs, it wasn't all numbers and arrows and wild 'em ups.

G Force rollercoaster was ok I thought and when they chipped up the original Rollercoaster so nastily, I actually thought it was (gulp) better.
I suppose it's all down to %s and profiles and punters at the end of the day. Not the most memorable of machines really.

Powerspin was a shit at times as well, overrated machine on the time imo.

G Force was a decent machine. Yarmouth Pier had 2 of them and they always seemed to be ready. They would give you everything in the book, from Number Runner to Skillstop on the bonus, and regular over 18s Cash Rapids and Oblivion features. Roll Up hit the 10 to skill for nudges was useful, as was roll down hit 1 or 12 for a high amount of nudges.

They weren't so useful in the pubs though. Same with Pot Of Gold, which was because of the pub program.

Wasn't it great back in the day to see that thin red cabinet in the pub. You just knew it was a JPM and 80% of the time it was a decent one.
