Website updated. Apologies for delay, which was due to BT's almost optimal incompetence.

Also in an attempt to re-ignite the competitive Bubka-esque high-scoring and word building between the elite players a year or two ago, I would like to propose the following new targets:

Highest scoring word: 1000 pts (current WR 799 pts)
Longest word: 20 letters (current WR 18 letters)
Total points: 2700 (current WR 2497)

A little bit optimistic with the total points mark there! How about breaking 2500 first?

I think the other two are feasible.

A good thing to aim for would be lowering the words/game mark - going for a sub-18 word game would require better word knowledge and spotting, which would both be of use for hitting very high scores.

Presumably getting a 1000 pt word and also clearing, could set a big big score. But to be honest, I think to go much above 2500 will require a grid loaded with Zs and Qs etc, and to build TWO quizz... words.

You need to get your brother out then. I'm still of the opinion that building a biggie is the more reliable way to post a top score. How many of the top scores did NOT involve a 300pt word? Spotting one potential big word is more likely than spotting 10 medium words that don't need setting up.

True, but word spotting - especially eking out big words in the final stages (taking tiddly words at this stage is what usually sends the word count up) - will make the most out of a QUIZZ- start.

made a cheering discovery on sunday evening. was visiting friends and their home pub had an ind:e with word -so UP. made my day that did

soup is okay (the irritating non-words can be factored out if you choose to) but UP is the mutt's nuts. fortunately i didn't pot it and took the £8: perfect scenario.

To be honest I find the original dictionary annoying, given the common words it leaves out. I prefer the newer dictionaries on the grounds that all common words are win (even if the downside is that it also contains random shite words).

Oops ... that rings a bell. Now you mention it I think the word I meant was SLUT, which I usually then play as LUST if the letters' locations allow that. I must be a goldfish in terms of the number of times I try to play it only for it to be rejected. The same thing used to happen with the word ZEN in the original Word Up.

Not in game censorship, but on a hi score list my entry of 'so close' (I had missed a prize by one point) was replaced by a 'standard name' entry. No idea why though.

I assume the makers have an aversion to dice games, as craps is not accepted.
