I got barred for winning(my infamous incident) you got barred for cheating. If it didnt give you an unfair advantage why use it? Many games have spoilers if you dont like it dont play it! Yes the numbers and token turning features can be a killer but you have to accept them.In the days of SIR people used cameraphones -risky, if they got caught they couldnt bleat about it afterwards. However your jukebox quip is a classic right out of the top drawer of windups  .

I must say, it's a fairly long stretch to call using a calculator 'cheating'. Undeniably, it's against the spirit of the game, but then again, so is putting out impossible questions within the time limit, from the punters point of view.

The game developers know full well that people have video phones/calculators. They don't even give you an edge, since if you need to use one to answer one question, guaranteed the next one will be even harder, like the ten-token-turnover or 23 swords to count.

Unless specifically stated that using passive equipment is against the rules, it's fair game. Is the punter required to self-police what the developer didn't think about ?

Totally fair point, but I think all rationality had gone down the pan at this point. You should have whapped this one on the jukebox.

That'd have sorted them.

Well said.

Never had any problems myself, in fact someone commended me for smart thinking :) However, many years ago I did have a barmaid inform me that "that's illegal!" when I was writing down cards on Concentration. (it got the response "so sue me").

I can't stand the sort of response the original poster mentioned, particularly as the complaining person would probably do the same if they had thought of it.

The problem is they probably have and are using it after the pub has closed.I am not promoting a holier than thou attitude, however to go down the calculator route and then be surprised at being banned is naive. You wouldnt go into a french exam and expect to be allowed a french-english dictionary , then perhaps you would with the way things are going in the no fail attitude of the government .

I'm with Quizmaster on this. Whatever the rights and wrongs, to get banned for playing Caesar's Palace is really quite bizarre!

I am not a fan of pubs who have machines facing the bar as they are watching to see what games are not paying out then hammering those games after closing.

without wishing to be snobbish, i'm not sure your average publican would have much advantage over his punters. maybe on japseye or something but CP (for example) requires strategy, knowledge, aritmetical gymnastics and whatever else they used to have in the krypton factor.
nobody ever wins on those things.

In my experience, it is nearly always only beneficial when pub staff play the machine a lot - again without meaning to be disrespectful, they don't tend to be net winners, which leaves all the more money for the likes of us to help ourselves to. If, on the other hand, the bar staff are capable of being net winners, then well done to them - they deserve the cash.

I will employ any tactic to win on these games.

I once had a Sudoku solver on my mobile, which sadly I'd used only the once since I needed a friend to play the game while I copied the puzzle. You need to put about 10 numbers in before you've ensured there's only 1 possible outcome, which I know makes it barely worthwhile.

I've also used my mobile phone (with flash in dark pubs/clubs sometimes) on memory games such as Pairz. Take a picture, then when it's time to pair up, look at the mobile.

Another one is, I printed "Pele's Top 100", the Periodic Table, and a comprehensive list of phobias, all on one sheet smaller than A4. It's come in handy the odd time.

Am I cheating? Yes. Is it negated by the fact that we have to answer spoilers? Yes

Fair's fair.

spoilers are there for one reason to prevent people from caning the machines- fair play to anyone who can learn them but cheating to overcome this fact is as bad as a banning landlord and shortens the life of a game on a terminal. There is nothing big or clever in using a calculator to work out equations memorising the big numbers or being able to multiply 3 numbers together quickly is.

spoilers are there not to maximise profit but to prevent seemingly intelligent people from emptying games.A person who can take out £20 from six games is a genius, a person who takes out every last penny out of one game on a machine is a moron.Of course I'd be amazed if CP falls into the emptyiable category however I do support the use of spoilers its sorts out the wheat from the chuff  .
