I dont miss it....

Post by Rob Pots »

As some of you know I've been off the fruitys now for a month due to my mrs being made redundant so bills had taken priority over playing out any GGG's and I have to say i dont miss it. Sure the profit was handy but i find myself making time for other things and enjoying life all the same.

I still look in on here but i dont get that urge that i'm missing out so to speak. Also my mrs has got a new job on more money and i still dont think i'll go out of my way to do a GG like i use to.

I'm not giving up but i think i was neglecting other aspects to my life without knowing it.

Hardly an exciting thread but might enlighten others.

Same here. I had 1 of them nightmare weeks at the end of last month going into this month. Losing a ton on a CLT, An invincible taking £80 for a flat then ending up £180 into it before it gave a £105 top.
A cash attack blocking the bonus then after being £40 into it Notey error so it was switched off.
Basically left me pretty skint for the rest of this month with the kids being off school and wanting go alton towers and stuff so I've barely been out. I've got loads done around the house and in the garden. I feel much more lively in myself and I can't say as it's bothered me that much not going out.

Im with you both guys.

I used to go espeically to play fruits, and found it was taken up so much of my time. I have a decent job with plenty of money, so started to realise that i was playing them for the sake of money.

I still go out, but only go for a punt when i fancy it, not cos there is a machine sat there flashing at me. I actually feel really good abotu things now, and get to spend a lot more quality time with my friends and doing things that i want to.

Dont get me wrong, if i see a machine gagging for it, then obv i will chuck a note in, but guess the point is, that im the one in control of my gambling and not the other way round if that makes sense.

Good luck to those stopping too.

I go out 2 full days a week now, playable machine base shrinking & shrinking, but still better than full-time employment (60% to government/housing)

Good on ya!

As I've said many times before, I only really play once a week - twice at the most, and even that now is dwindling down. I used to devote my entire Friday off (Saturday and Sunday are family days!) to slottaging, but that is now down to the odd machine or two. There are two key reasons to this:

1. There's naff all worth playing around my way any more. I used to have a fantastic supply of Reds, which were almost always ready every Friday. That's now down to 1 and endless other dross.

2. I found myself sometimes turning into a person I didn't like very much after spending all day on the fruits and beer - especially the morning after!

May be it's just that I'm now a dad and am nearing my thirties (just over a year and a half to go), but I now seem to be finding so much more that I want to do in life than stand in front of Noel Edmonds and feed money into his slot! Don't get me wrong, I still get down the pub nice and early on a Friday, but now, instead of racing to get on a machine and not getting off them til come 8ish in the evening, I'll spend my time another way - sit and actually read the paper, enjoy my pint. Maybe sit out by the riverside with a cold beer, a different paper and a good burger or something (er, when the weather's good, of course!) Maybe liesurely play a SWPer or something, or talk to new faces and make new friends. Sounds sad, almost, but it;s a great experience, and unless they turn out to be a mugger or something, I'm still going to have my money in my pocket come the end of the day!

Having said all that, as I mentioned at the start, I do still play a bit, but it is no longer the sole reason for me going out... ;)

Dunno what a GGG is but I presume its a new version of Golden Game?

I think the thing is these days, it is all about the money.

So from a players perspective, yes you can make money, but at what cost to yoursef?

From a punters perspective, they are gonna do 20 quid through it before they've waited for the head to settle on their pint, pointless!

Years ago, they were actually fun to play (hence AWP = Amusement with Prizes). Now they should be called LPWNC (Leaning Post with Note Changer).

In the days of classic JPMs (many people on here have probably never even seen one, let alone played them all week long), every machine was an enjoyment to play, not a 'tedious task'. When I get home from work now, I think ... um... maybe I should go and do some boxes for some beer money on friday but I have to talk myself into it - If I was going in town for a Cash Buster then I would actually look forward to playing it and the money would be a nice BONUS for the weekend!

I guess the point im trying to make is, is that when there is people like me and you that can go out and make money on machines after work and still cannot be bothered, no wonder 'normal punters' do not play machines anymore.

Theres my quids worth on the subject anyway ;-)

Cheers, Mark

Ah, JPMs after work were a treat indeed! Some great times were had on those and their affiliates (ACE):

-Impulse
-Cash Buster
-Red Alert
-Caesers' Palace
-Hot Shot
-Red Arrow
-Do You Feel Lucky

Those were my personal favorites! ;)

Oh, and...
scholl

...did you make Odour Eaters whilst you were there?  :o

well we can all get poisend of this game day in day out but its all ive ever done (now 36) for the last 20 years, but im fortunate that im not in the same situation as most . ie no kids , dont smoke ,dont drink, never allowed myself to get in debt with anything or anyone , therefor the same preasure to consistently make isnt there for me ,

ive only got a wife , dog and playstation to feed lol

seriously only gotta make 3-400 a month to pay rent / mobile / run a car etc

so if i only made 100 a week at slotting , i would survive

stil averaging anything between 150 - 600 a week , 4 days , but things are running thin on the ground, having to travel further and further afield to make the day, sometimes a 50 mile round trip for just 4 machines etc

i do envy a lot of people though , because when the crunch finally comes , i know im not prepared for the eventual adjustment (mentaly)

but as long as its possible to make regualary 60+ a day im not complaining,

2years absolute max left

gotta agree with what others are saying , there really isnt as much of a buzz when playing todays machines, compaired to yesteryear,

stil a straight 105 on a red stil hits the spot.
Little discipline = BIG issue

I too take my hat off to you Rob.

I've gradually played down to just 1 or 2 days a week and its not bothered me at all, plus I've been unemployed since January therefore I've had a hell of a lot of time on my hands.

As long as I can make £70-100 each outing I'm happy and anything extra is a bonus. The problem these days are lack of variety and quality, also Joe Public 'change from a pint' seem to be rapidly dissappearing.

Now, if this was 5/6 years ago and I was in the same situation as I am now I'd be out all day everyday.

By the way, do you miss those nice green hands?? :D
