Another good discipline to invoke, I find, is the following, which I always use if funds are at a premium.

Say for example you have £50 in your pocket and also access to other funds, but you really don't want to touch them. Before you approach any machine, say to yourself that you want to walk away when either of the following two situations occur:

1. You are a tenner up.
2. You are a tenner down.

Of course, the top one is by far the better situation, but the bottom one isn't as bad as you may think.

Let me elaborate.

We're all pretty good judges of machines, so within the play that you get within your first tenner, most of the time you should be able to judge how things are looking. If you're £10 in and don't even get a board, then get the hell out of dodge! That £10 could soon become £20 without a comeback of any sort! Of course, the nature of gambling means that the following thoughts start to form:

"Crikey, £10 without a board, it must give me one in the next few quid?!"

"Ah, it's saving up for a big win on the next board when it finally does give it to me!"

"This is just the calm before the storm!"

How often are those three thoughts not the case? I'd say 75%+ of the time.

If you walk and you're a tenner down (from £50), you've still got another 4 machines that you can perform the same routine on. Now unless you play in Burntland Road, Old No Luck Town, Already Droppedshire, at least 1 in 5 of those machines is going to return some sort of profit?

---

Having said all that, I'm speaking from a point of view that playing is about <15% of what I spend my time doing (I work full time, have a life outside of the pub, etc.) This wouldn't really work for those who 'do it for a living'.

Keeps me happy and ticking over nicely on a long Friday pub crawl! ;)

Wise words mate, thanks for sharing that. Its all about discipline.

Its good to say how much you want to win. Then when you've won it don't push you're luck and get the hell off the machine. All these small wins all add up.

Well I broke 1 of my rules on a yabba dabba darts the other day.

I always say if u've put like £5 - £10 in and get like a £20 cashpot then take is as it will probably be the same profit return - or better than going for darts marathon.

But no - in a train station yesterday got £25 cashpot of £12 and had was 2 features off darts marathon. Then i got plus 2 cash which took the cash to £25 so basically everything is full.

Then landed on a ? and thought it would give me multi add but no - lose.

It ended up costing £31 for a £42 DM.

So 11 up instead of 13, lots more hassle and yep - i missed the train :|

Yep i think SUPER DM was the barcrest logo flash upon board entry, which was a guaranteed repeat, generally a decent one say 15+

i had the flash just yesterday in a services, i was £36 in at the time and knowing they usually do give a bit extra on the flash i thought i'd at least break even, only went for an extra £6 so ended up £5 down, this is the lowest i've ever had from a flash, i did have a chance to take an £18 cashpot but i was £14 in at the time and it looked to be flying and was full and the quids were landing on a pile of coins so i pushed on, never mind.

Was it a bit too sharp? ;)

I remember my best 'flash top' (sounds like something you'd hope a well-endowed female might do) was on a Lucky Strike, it went for £90! And that, of course, was on a £25er. :)

Could you KB the flash on these and get something mammoth?
