Tell tale signs
There are many ways to tell if a machine is in a paying mood, without the aid of keys, what are they tho?
Backing up (unless engineer has been about)
Multiple Red Features on start board
Superstarts (Not Always an indication)
Speed of game?
Speed of reels?
The sequence of numbers
Cashpot amounts
Regular boards
offering high cash/prizes
Can anyone expand or correct this information
cheers

There are hugely subtle variations on seemingly obvious tells within the world of fruit machines. Fruit machine is a dirty word and could be mistakenly associated with a vending machine that dispenses fruit in return for cash. From hereonwithnowfromhenceforth I shall refrain from using that most evil of words moot frachine and replace it with the acrid nymph of A(moosement) with (wiyb) prises (such as wedging ROTB on DBG).
Across the board of AWPs we have games such as Lite-a-nudge, Cash Attack, Wacky Weekend and Deal or no Deal? (The Banker's Office). Sometimes when things go red it's good and sometimes it's meaningless and sometimes it's bad and sometime's it's just because it is and was and will be however you look at it. What is red today may be blue the next day.
This may all seem like insanely complex jibberdygook. I promise you it is. So now I shall speak the sence into the sentences that you require. If you are me then this is hard as I love to talk absolute bullshibberish. However please appreciate you've thrown down a question with ends so open in a world of information where one wrong move could result in the difference between a £105 top (whatever that is) and a whistle that goes for £35, but was a proper whistle, honest it was, you'll get another feature soon I promise as that one was free unless it was a totally outlandish cheap whistle from nowhere £100s before it starts doing that thing that everyone knows, even that guy down the bingo. Shocking really, shouldn't give a tight natural when it's so dead. I could have left a few pounds up and it paid out bars to Flo yesterday, Les and hold so uffft must be some hidden repeat value or something. Jesus it's full, but I reckon they've refilled it as that guy who comes in on Tuesday probably batterred it yesterday which was the day before tomorrow which may have been today. Oh look it has rolled in a fiver. That's sort of good as it's probably the little bit of free dribble, the mess around the placenta, that kind of thing.
Sorry to tic tac tracker nutter natter on, back on track.
i) Backing up.
Let's start on this one. There seems to be some confusion between a Transit van and our best enemy, the AWP. Or maybe a paper jam, or a jam sandwich. To get into the groove, the lingo must be right. If you blurt out "That machine's backing up! It's gonna pay!" you'll get blasted. Never say 'backing' either. That'll make you sound like you've just left the CMA member's area (last updated in 1992). No normal person says backing or backing up. So from now on it's "Full" or "Chocka" or "Dropping down the back". Look, to sum it up generically, it's usually a good indicator, but there are circumstances where it means nothing.
For example
a) You're playing Slotto.
b) You're playing in Weatherspoons at 9am.
c) You're playing a Power 5 that someone called Anfield Road was playing ten minutes ago.
d) There are engineers and refill people loafing about - ah you said that one.
e) It's 1:1 starting and a 'CL' light is showing.
ii) Multiple red features on start board
Some machines will pay up and some will play up. How, when, who, which and why is up to you unfortunately. Different players have their different preferences. Some will lie, some will tell the truth. It's the old adage, it's not who you know, it's what they tell you.
iii) Super starts. Well. I had a boost on a SWYW (Spin when you're winning) the other day. It boosted to red hot picker (top position). It was a battle to get my money back. This is a pleasant machine, but when the next board cost £15 and was as cool as ice, I knew I was in for a ride.
You can't teach experience. Superstarts often give you a better chance at a rip. Sometimes it means it's flying. Again, there is no easy answer.
Well look, maybe some other kind soul can pick up the baton. I've been playing AWPs for a period of time now and have put some serious money into the slot. Whether or not I've made anything is beyond the scope and desires of this posting.
Ok Look I'll summarise. You've got to use humour to diffuse the situation. You're probably feeling bitter and angry. I don't blame you. I don't want to knock you down with you'll never get the money back, give up now, go to GA. I dislike pessimism, but please, there is a serious undertone to this thread and SERIOUS MOMENT now please, do not discount what many people have said within this thread. There is a checklist for referral to GA.
"'ARRRY!!!..........'AAAAARRRRRRYYYYYY!!!"
"POST IT UP WILL YA!!!! THAT THINGYMY.....'AVE YOU EVER STOLEN FROM LOVED ONES....YA KNOW THE ONE I MEAN......POST IT UP WILL YA!!"
Now it may seem like Nanny state, fuddling you up in cotton wool. However if you're asking about 'backing up', when you're 15k down on a board, where there is, in the current climate, a serious conflict of interest in divulging anything other than generic information on 'fruit machines that are full' then maybe it is the only option.
The other option as I say, is to keep the chin up, inject your own brand of humour into what might seem like a dark situation. Keep asking away. Don't be put off by flames. Stay sensible, but also STAY SHREWD. This posting is 98% piffle and 2% information. Capitalise on that 2% of information. Where is the 2%? It's like mastermind. You've got two black pegs and one white one. What does that mean? A sequence of red, blue, red, black? Is it? Was it? Is that my reference to a top secret emptier? Is that the 2%? Well no, I can't say that as what is the point of having black pegs and white pegs eh? Maybe that bit up there about CL lights and 1:1 starts is useful? Maybe the bit about GA is useful? Who knows? You decide. No matter what, grind away, don't give up, it's tough, but by next year you could be on here mating the slunters and making out you were holding down the perspex on Joker's Wild or whatever it was.
At the very least I expect the emptier for DOND (The Banker's Office).

Years and years and ears and noses ago I had a Power 5 that had been re-site you ated into a nooo locashun.
It had not been properly reset and was patently about one billion pounds behind % in a place full of 'casuals'. It 'twas only on a one two five 'opper (tube). This was of course in 1985, before the years of note changers (which were introduced in February 208) .
Anytheay, the tubes on this Power 5 were always full. I'd go in the pub, look up the tubes and they'd be full. Click clack clunk, the coins would topple out the back of the tube into the cashbox. This would be a couple of days after I'd left it £100 off.
Someone was doing some serious parsnip. Anyhow the first board would cost about £8 and it'd offer £2+rep. It was the phone board of course. A reflex kindly board offerred to help relieve the stress of muntlings in need when DOND had not been taken for a while. A safety valve. Remember phone board is not a pot and is a reflex designed as a twist to suck in grinding value takers by surprising them with a DOND board. Of course usually it was the £13 odd for rolling lemons. If it was that box with all the dust then it meant £35 of tokens were coming my way. I was too young to buy alcopops, so often spent it all on scampi fries. A full tube could buy over 200 packets of overpriced scampi. Boootiful.
On a serious note. Come on now. Come on now.

Seriously. If I didn't know, I'd be seriously peed off. Particularly if it was full to start. Imagine that. On a session, "hey look guys, this machine is full, using my beer money I shall win us this next round.". Two cash cards, all the beer money and a sore fist later a serious feeling of deflation. This can be running £1000s over. Not like wiyb which comes back 'fairly' soon.
Anyone seen randoms losing their rag with dead P5s? Hmmmm?

Hmmmm......It can 'repeat' on the 'phones' board no probs even when normally guaranteed (?)/Game Over third move. £1 starts etc
Or am I just remembering things wrong?
Nope. I've definitely had it dead, dead, dead. Spawned some £35s, £20s, £22.57s really bashed it over, then the phone board, tried to get greedy when it's that penny. You know the score. Starts off badish, but £35 is still there. 1p,10p,£1 and £35. It's the 1p (dimple in middle), but it is only giving £4.86 as the offer. You get greedy, hoping for the £14.74 offer, but it takes away £35 and 10p, leaving you with a no brainer. Grrr, should have taken 'Banker Streak'. Grrrrrr.
Or am I just imagining up the 'phone board'? Nah, definitely gave phones when stone cold emptied. I'm sure it could throw in repeats as well (only psuedo same credit repeats mind, or could it take credits?).
It's going back a bit now, me playing unchipped P5. I don't have any unchipped Power 5s left here in huuuurventry. You know it's the 'phone board' as often starts on say £4+rep, doesn't kill third go, lands on other things in centre apart from box and useless phones.
