My new years resolution was to quit gambling. I was doing really well and didnt even have a punt on the football this weekend.

It all depends why you stop playing. My resolution was to stop playing for the following reasons:
- While I'm still playing regularly and making enough to pay the bills I won't bother getting a job. This will mean that as time goes by my CV will have a bigger and bigger gap and the way things are going I'll make less and less.
- It's very anti-social because quite often the best times to play are times when you should otherwise be out doing other things (sometimes these overlap, for example, playing in pubs while out on a Fri / Sat night with non-playing mates or, even worse, a young lady- JUST DON'T DO IT).
- I get bored of playing GG's, Monops etc and the aggro from staff / other punters, the comments etc.
HOWEVER:
One of my good mates happens to be a player so we still go out for a few beers on selected 'quiet' nights and play the fruits to cover costs and hopefully make a few quid. This wont interrupt with work and I'd only be sitting at home anyway...it's basically a free night-out! (and you'd never turn down a free drink would you!)* I won't however go out specifically to play fruits (so no arcades, bingo halls etc.)
To summarise, if you're giving up because it's a habit that's costing you money then, I believe, you should go cold turkey and not play at all (like if you were giving up smoking). However if, like me, you're giving up because you need to prioritise other things in your life then there's no harm in trying that fruit that's clearly ready as long as it doesn't interfere with anything else.
Sorry if this is long-winded but it made sense to me!
*I admit that I did, originally, intend to give up playing completely but realised, very quickly, that not-playing a ready fruit for the sake of 'not-playing' is as good as throwing money away!

To be honest i think im starting to grow out of fruits and dont really enjoy playing them anymore, just play them for the earner. Plus I dont wanna be gambling for the rest of my life!

) experience with online gambling. The only thing I might do is a low-stake poker game with friends.Gambling, to be honest, doesn't appeal. risking money on something random seems a bit of a waste (particularly when the odds aren't in you favour in the case of casino's, FOBTs etc.)
I agree that I don't want to be playing machines all my life (and if the rumours are to be believed this wont be possible anyway
). I do get bored playing machines but still enjoy the challenge of playing a good fruit with a pint (but NOT [and I can't stress enough] when out with non-players and/or young ladies).I do get tired of being introduced to new people by my mates as "this is Phil, he plays fruit machines"...any credability you may have had has probably just been blown to bits (and if you're being introduced to a woman for the first time, any interest she may have had in you has gone!)
I'm not sure any 'pro' player can truely give up (you can't ignore an all-red Red or a Mazooma that's clearly flying) but my plan is to stop machines being an 'occupation' and turn into something I do occasionally to pay for my beer. This shouldn't be too hard as while I sit here [job hunting] I can't think I've anything I'd like to do less than get in my car and go and play fruits!*
*Unless there's a new pub opened up with a Rovers and Vortex in, in that case mine's a pint!

I stick to Fruits, and Fruits alone. Never gambled on any other medium, and don't see the attraction in doing so.
Family changes that are on their way have meant I've had to put the pennies away, but I still manage to get out and spin a few, usually with modest results, sometimes the occaisional loss, and sometimes a nice £200+ up!
That's the best way it's been for me for ages, and hopefully the way I can keep it! Playing the Fruits is probably <5% of what I do with my life, (fair do's, it was a lot more when I was younger (10 years ago, or so!)) and I'm happy with that percentage!
There's so much more to do with life, and it's important not to lose sight of that!
Why not say that you are not quitting, but 'slowing down'. I'm not sure how regular you play at the moment, but halve it. Then, in a few weeks time, halve it again. Keep doing this until you are down to only playing when you spot something well worth while, (like in your example!)
Small goals build up to be a big goal in the long run!

I have a good route twice a week pulling in £300. Will do half days to top up if I don't reach that target. I am quite happy with that and allows me to enjoy plenty other things in life. When I first started, I was a 7 day a week, dawn till dusk man. Nowadays, I just can't be bothered.
Girlfriend still thinks you are "having fun and living it up" when out "Working"! Playing gets bloody annoying after a while.

I go out everyday and work my ass off with my playing partner making money on whatever is available, I own but pretty much don't work on a net company I setup that is my fall back. I will continue to play as long as I have the winning edge and wont miss a chance to earn until its gone.
