I used to think that i would be doing it, then i got quite a serious GF, and i realised that being a fruity player was impressing no one, so i just realised i needed a job and got one... quite happy i did, as now the black hole in my CV isn't as huge.

I remember one day i was sposed to take her out, and i blew £100 on a machine that died... and it made me short for the evening that made me uncomfortable, so after that i promised never again, and its fine so far.

Hello Anfield. I work in the industry and have some information to share, not any emptiers I am sorry to say.
The industry is changing due to the introduction of the Gambling Commission. One of the biggest effects will hit the professional players really hard. It is that the AWP gaming business in the UK is presently unique in that we do not have random machines. This is about to change as from the 1st September 2008 Category C machine presently 50p stake and £35 prize will be subject to testing retrospectively. Basically all the streaks, emptiers etc will be removed from new machines. The legacy machines, that is made before that date, will of course stay, however they will become older and older and their tells will lose their potency.
I would seriously consider an alternative route for what its worth.

Knuckle down and get a qualification like I did first so then you've got something to fall back on mate.

A CV is not life or death. Luckily, I have managed to accumulate a 5 figure sum over 2 years, so could use this money to set up a business.

Overheads now are becoming too much. I am basically going out 4 days a week to cover day to day expenditure, bills etc. Luckily, I live in an area that has 1000's of pubs within a 30 mile radius and can still make money.

I am thinking of using e-bay as an alternative source of income, rather than hunting machines down all day long, I might hunt down a good supplier of products in bulk to sell.

If one day, I do need a CV, I'm sure "Licenced e-bay seller 2004-current" would be suffice. Employers would probably be pleased with my initiative shown.

Indeed. 5 figures is not a great stretch to earn if you are dedicated.

Interesting thread

I've been playing for years (although have had jobs at times). Playing full time at the moment and loving it.

Great fun visiting new places, choosing your hours, days off etc. Drinking at work and being paid to go out with your mates.

I've often believed that profitability will end (been thinking so for many years) but I believe this may well become reality within the next 12 months (plenty of signs of it now)

I will certainly be looking for a job in the new year as I'm quite well qualified. Also, I'm single and live at home and I don't see either changing while I'm playing full-time (this isn't to say you can't have your own place and a happy relationship [one of my pro mates does] but I think it makes it trickier)

Just my opinions....interesting post tho.
