How could there ever be 'hints' for a machine where all you have to do is press spin!

Precisely! You cannot influence what lands on the reels.
Here's a tip: Tie your girlfriends' wrists together behind her back and confiscate her wallet.

press collect and spin a fraction of a second after. That was a good hint.

I always try random key presses on B3s. You never know, you may stumble upon an emptier and it's more entertaining than paying £1500 to see three guitars clock up £5.60
