you are quite right that i am "sour", especially since i could have claimed the spoils of triumph for completing the unlikely children's A-Z. i got GRANDPARENTS at half time during the England vs ireland match but by the end of saturday i was in an ambulance and have been enjoying a charming spell in charing cross hospital since then. some neanderthal green oik decided to start a punch-up and my glass jaw got broken.

anyway, whether real time or fruitchat bragging rights gets the casting vote, we are both immeasurably superior to the rest of the layabout wastrels who toy with WU now.

my next crusade is to convert my shameful >11, <300 in 11+es.
i also collect birds so WHIPPOORWILL and YELLOWHAMMER are waiting to be spotted.
but i'm back to full stength now and i'm allowed to drink so beware.

hurray!

i only need Y+10 then i can retire to the country mansion paid for by WU winnings. YACHTSWOMAN was my aim initially but that seems a bit optimistic in terms of scarcer letters. will have to have a rethink.

since Bob has absconded with the trophy i think we should stage a coup.

One website entry to update - ANGIE LIAM got EXCEPTIONAL (319/11) in The Society Rooms, Glasgow, which is not a word that could be used to describe the session as a whole. Even the potential highlight, THWACKED, was partly fouled up when a dodgy screen resulted in a double-press of the K as the word was being entered.

A couple more website entries - QUIZZERS and 1844 as ANGIE in Esquire House. I'm very rusty at the moment, having hardly played for 3 or 4 weeks, though there was some encouragement to be had in the form of a 1450-odd with 1 tile left. Still, must do better while this £1000 tournament is active.

I'm hating the Scrabble dictionary, as obviously it's far more useful to word-savants like UP & Bob than it is to word-ignorami like me. I'm also wasting quite a bit of time randomly typing in possible words that I'd never have even considered before to see if they get accepted. If you're reading Big Fizz, revert to the old vocab please!

I'm not going to third it.

I agree the SOWPODS dictionary is a bit of a joke, but I did think the current Word-Up dictionary was a bit tight... I still try and play words like HET, BEN and QUIDS cos I'm so sure they should be there.

Anyway, with this new dictionary, I'm blazing a trail across the Central Belt (well, Paisley and Falkirk), leaving a shower of mediocre clearances in my wake. Games which might normally might have netted £2 now give the jackpot.

I realise that this isn't what Word-Up is up all about, but since I've never troubled the upper echelons of the game, I might as well overuse a cliche and make hay while the sun shines.

in a certain pub for lunch and a cursory game of WU. the Bobs had been at it and amidst a host of the normal TRANQUILLIZERS, BILLIONAIRESS, QUIZZICALLY and similar functional words, the scoreboard had a most phenomenal word and one which impresses me more than the 2497.

that is beautiful, i've had ZEUGMA but that is nowhere near as good. hats off.

Cheers, UP - it takes -ES too, apparently (which I didn't know at the time)

Got a goodish, strangeish word today: POXVIRUSES

And a nice addition to a long words scoreboard:

V BOBS ... PIMPMOBILE

More functionally: BORAZON (useful if you see BOZO) and FAZENDA (which can be extended (sort of) to FAZENDEIRA)

There are so many beauties to play in the new word list, UP - you should be like a pig in muck.
