He is my friend. He shouldn't have been banned, was there a specific complaint made? Banning him won't be of much use anyway, if he wants to come he will: via VPN or otherwise, he's very technologically savvy.

he's got eff all chance of coming back while membership is closed even if he's a computer uber geek.

he was banned for spamming the board with ridiculous and pointless abusive pre-dawn postings made whilst he was obviously high as a kite, one of them was directed at me so no need for complaints from others.

any further issues regarding the matter can be addressed to Mr Hugh Gibbs.

Got it in one BFK, it was that pesky nuisance OB, thank God he's barred now. Mr Lugsy any idea how long this registration facility will be disabled for? Was it to stop the spambots?

yes , i think it was to stop spam, probably gonna stay till admin figures something out that's more permanent to stop it.

you only have to look at the who's online bit and there's loads of the damn things constantly trying to register(over 2 dozen right now)

Yes plenty of registration attempts from 'guests'. Also a few spiders checking things out. I notice that a Googlebot Adsense spider is checking Mikej82s profile. Presumably an Illuminati spider in disguise working out the best way to silence him.

...If I was diagnosed with a disease which would end my life within 6 hours... I'll kill the noisy bastard and turn him into a real meat loaf.

they won't be going away any time soon, you've got google to thank for that. they are difficult to beat now, the software behind the bots is very advanced, but a few suggestions:

Prevent new users from creating new topics
Prevent new users from posting links
Manually moderate the first few posts of new users

You can setup rules to automatically promote new users to regular users after a certain threshold of genuine posts is met.

These will help.

i appreciate that advice kong and also what you've said before on this topic.

however , i don't have the skill or the power to implement it myself, only admin can do it.
