Corals for Doors
I would argue that the ability to have total freedom in what to display on the reels is worth far more than 'stealing' pseudo Cashpot. If the machines worked like Cf says, they wouldn't be very satisfying to play; and the amount of times we land 2 of the three pot symbols (only for the last to totter one above or one below the winline) would seem TERRIBLY unlucky. Never 1 and 3 though huh?
Of course you could spin a set of hidden 'pseudo reels' and later translate that to something juicy and enticing for us all to get excited over. Ironically, this is just what a win table is.

I'm sure it states in the law governing b3's that they have to appear random at all times. Their not allowed to tease or entice the player.
Which is pure BS as there's quite a few videos, pictures and peoples stories around. Showing exactly the opposite. 2 pot symbols, near full screens with the wrong reel out etc.

He isn't right of course, he just thinks he is.
Re: Progressives.
IMO, for what it's worth progressive pots are seen and calculated into the wintable as 50, 150 or a 250 win. Target percentage is set to 89% and the additional 3% goes to the progression. The value above the reset amounts are essentially 'free'. Any overflow could be used to recalculate when a pot is won. weightings.for the wins can easily be set higher than their values to allow more build up. that's so much simpler and surely just as effective.

This is an interesting read, and it does tally with what i've seen on the game playing it myself in casinos. I enjoy the odd cheeky £20 in it.
The article suggests the game works by having the reels set up, in this case 47, 46,48, 50, 50 icons long. It's then simply a case of choosing a random number for each and that's what is displayed. This gives a total of 259 million possible combinations. You then calculate the total wins of those combinations to give the overall pay %. Bonuses are accounted for by working out what the average award of the bonus is and using that value in the pay table.
Simple, and nothing funny or untoward going on.
But it can be designed to give "near misses".
e.g. the bonus symbol occurs more on reels 2 and 3 (in this game you need 3 bonus symbols on a line in the first 3 reels). So often you might get the 2 bonuses in a row on 2 or 3 but nothing on 1.
Wilds appear to be reasonably common (5 wilds = jp) but there's only 1 on reel 3 making 5 in a row a bit of a remote shot.
On a RR you could do the same with the pots icons. By making them more common on reels 2 and 3 you'll get lots of "yeah!" "yeah!" but because there's only say 1 icon on the 4th reel you're unlikely to hit it.
And I think the simplest way for the progressives to work is just have a fixed value for them in the pay table. As uber-pro says just make your pay table pay x% less and put this money into the progressive pots. So the amounts above reset are "free/already paid for".
So in this instance the odds of getting the pots are always the same. But the bigger the pots get the bigger your expected return is. Let's go with 92% (89%+3%prog). If you play with the unit at reset pots you're essentially playing an 89% game. As the pots get bigger your expected return gets bigger. But still, it'll only be by a few %...

Checked out the golds today, slipped a 10er in a and collected 50 odd of bits, played the credit down with the intention of a 50 collect and pots came in on the last press, gold, which as it was the promotion slot was 500.
I notice its only the games from the main screen are the 500, if the pots have already been built you cam play that game from selecting the slots screen.
Had a couple of 100 rollins on the other terminals, one with cashed out 230ish, the other gambled to 150 and save 100, then did a 50 to 400 pie which landed.
Was a worth while visit for sure.
still plenty of gold pots for taking...

I think the one I hit a gold on had had 59spins, yesterday it seemed like these £500 gold promotion machines were on a hot streak, no one else in the shop was playing them though.
One lady cost here £300 to get the scatters on the pirate themed one, win was less than £90.... Another terminal cost the usual £100s for medals on rocky for some body.... and a guy came in and did what must of been some where between £1-2k on roulette, hotshot version, with odd wins but never winning. All that would appear to be standard happenings.

Interesting thread!
Jg - was thinking the paytable could be adjusted after the pots drop, so £200 of overflow on the gold pot could then mean when gold is dropped that the wintable see's the pots as 50, 150, 50. The gold could then come out easier next time as isn't weighted against as much when the pots drop in....
Could well be barking up the wrong tree tho!!
