Easiest way to change reel bulbs?????

Post by seanj86 »

I've got 2 machines, one empire games, and one vivid, both are in barcrest genesis cabinets, what's the best way to change the bulbs I can't get my fingers in to unclip bulbs they are far too much of a squeeze, am I correct in thinking you lift each. Reel up unclipping it gently out of the holder and doing it that way? Seems a lot of effort as you have to take first two reels out completely just to get to 3rd?????

Got one in the workshop so I will check later to see if there is an easier way...

I use a small flat head screwdriver, the mini ones you tend to use for mobile phones etc, does the job well :) Don't have to fiddle about with your finger coming off worse! Maybe a bit hard to explain sorry ha!!

Unless your machine is quite old, pre mpu5, then I can't see why you would need to remove reels 1 & 2 in order to get to the 3rd. You should simply be able to lift the reel up out, and completely out if required, to access the bulbs. Be careful not to break the holders though, as these generally get brittle with time and constant heat.

I wouldn't recommend it, I did that earlier thinking I would be clever, and broke one of the legs off the third reel mount.
It's not exactly difficult to remove all three in turn anyway... so I will continue to do so.
