well im sticking by my 80 ,,,,,,,,,,,, in fact i think i was being generous .
really think about it ,,,,,,,,, go through your phonebook of contacts , and really think about all the players you know , and their circumstances , i know players both local and from down south , that have been top skills players for years, that due to bad discipline , or the extreme high cost of living expenses (rent , council tax etc), through no real fault of their own , have to rely on the benefits system . ,,,,,,,,,,,,, now there's nothing wrong with that whatsoever , and im not judging anyone (you do what you need to do in life to get by).
but if you have other money coming in ,,,,,,,,,, not related to fruits ,,,,,,,,, how can you say you make a LIVING off fruits , and are a pro,,,,,,, ? when you haven't tried without the benefits to see if you would survive solely on fruit income .
a pro player surely is completely self sufficient and makes his LIVING from his trade.
80? meh , probably closer to 70

Hard to guess really, i'm sure there must be more than 100 though.
Think how many big cities there are in the UK though....London/Manchester/Brum/Notts/Leeds/Glasgow/Sheffield/Bradford/Edinburgh/Liverpool/Cardiff/Leics etc...all of these cities have multiple players, and i haven't even touched coasts or loads of other big towns and cities!

There are so many factors, some live with there parents still, some are too lazy and only go out a few hours a week, some have bad addications to fobt's. Some treat it like a job, 9-5 take pack lunches with them, i used to go out playing with a guy who had always be back for a certain time as his wife always cooked him dinner. some have jobs and only come out when scams are out. There are more than 80 surely, although i only know about 5 ppl i would call pro. I love seeing old time players trying to play HOFS cant see the boxes properly or playin it wrong, i piss myself but never approach them as theres no point.
Thing is though are these 12 year olds picking up tiny wee bits of stuff that's gonna help them ten years down the line when there 22? I first played one 5 years ago when i was 23 and now have some good contacts, none of which i've met through the wild, some of those kids might be the top boys now!!
Amazing topic starter. I did see the program on sky and it was a very unique documentary to say the least.
I took a gap year out after my a levels, although I did travel, the majority of my time was spent down by the south coast most days playing fruit machines and sharking tourists as much as possible. Honestly speaking it was a brilliant time. A lot of non fruit machine type people would say it was pretty sad, but me and two close mates used to drive down every afternoon and make around 50 quid a day. This was just about enough to cover a good night out on the town in the pubs and clubs. I have some awesome memories from that period of time of my life. I met a few oyks/chavs/doll-ites who used to make a living from it and they seemed to be doing ok. Its interesting to chat to some of these people and learn tricks of the trade for sure, but like I said in earlier posts I honestly think the industry is fucked in terms of new playables, emptyables, rips etc
bring on the days of oldskool barcrests again!

My mate was a head chef at a brewers fayre and i had just dropped out of college and needed a full time job, he gave me a job in the kitchen and all the chefs played the machines, i watched them, then i played a whole load of emulators till i learned the basics through and through, then i started playing in the wild, that combined with reading this and other forums cover to cover helped me learn the majority of the ins and outs. I still work in a kitchen full time and will never take up playing full time but it's definately handy to know more than the average punter.
