Barcrest Engineer Industry Bod
You've asked this question so often Lee. In fact I'm so sick of hearing it that I had to contact a top, top, top boy to get the answer.
The answer is this. I've disguised the voice of the top boy and omitted a photograph as he wanted to remain anonymous.
"Look mate, you know the score yeah? The people who design the games prefer compensated if you know what I mean. If it's random it's harder to get stuff past, you get me? Compensated is complicated, loads of places to put something. You can't rip a random either yeah? Ok we could do an empty, but emptys ain't any good. If you're ringing 'cos of the latest stuff to hit the fan, worst possible case as the value wasn't counted. Only good if a very select few know and don't take the piss, but people will notice when their cashboxes are £300 less than they should be, in most cases, it's a negative take, wasn't deliberate that one JG, but you know how it is. Also if you're going to post this on Fruitchat then send me a PM first so I can scan it [Done and approved], speak to you later mate."
Shall we say as long as people in the right places higher up than us prefer compensated for their own gains, then you and me can get the ratty rewards.
Another thing that was mentioned in that conversation that I didn't quote/paraphrase was that there may be a shift in companies producing 'compensated' games in the nearish future. It's due to contracts, but say bye bye to regular clones/greening from Barcrest first then BFG etc and hello to Concept Gaming, JDL, Mission Games, Empire, JPM, Touch interactive, Games Media Group, GWHL, Inspired, Maxx and Pulse.
That's why it exists as it is, but it's tumultous out there. Government policy and consumer demand and company/department turnovers all have strong bearing on what we get to play.
Hope that helps,
Cheers,
JG

Disagree Houston. There are some horribly soft profiles that could make that more unlikely than a compensated getting noted to death and then streaking for an IOU. You're right though that compensated has traditionally been used primarily to guarantee steady take for an operator but also to avoid alienating players.
Can you name a popular Cat C random? (Concept is hybrid random/comensated) the top boys program them with such horrible profiles that no one will be interested as they love their compensation, same as Lee and me.
Compansated all the way.
This game will last for ever, talk of getting jobs when it's all over? Madness. It'll be super phat in the end of next decade when they have £500 compensated B3s in pubs. Park benches will stay dry for years and years and years. In twenty years time you'll be hitting up wild thing skills for £1000 a time in chip shops. OK, that last sentence was an HRK honourary mod edit.
You'll look back and laugh that you thought it'd be all over within a year. However you'll still be worried that surely it has to finish now? This empty has made things super on top. Nah, no need to worry. There will be lean and phat, but this game will go on and on and on.....there's enough for your children and childrens children. Just relax.

JG, you should go into journalism and carry out your true vocation. Im sure you could write pages and pages about nothing in paticular.
On a serious note though, the industry isn't all as it seems. There's lots of politics that goes on and sometimes us players interpret things wrong and get the wrong end of the stick. By the way, watch for a new company about to come on the scene, they aim to change the AWP forever

It will never go all random. If it does then the decision-making will vanish from fruit machines. This is what keeps people in the game. Along with inapropriate beliefs.
With random machines you can't get beliefs triggered by gossip. But with high -techs with different levels of playing, it is easy for joe public to 'invent' a way of playing that they feel is superior to anyone elses, thus re-inforcing the risk-reward thingamajiggy, fuck it I'm too tired and it's too late.
Basically, reward for decision making forms the basis of gambling, so fruit machines have to offer choice, hence the door will always be open for the emptier, rip or just plain far better thought out way of playing that machine.
may come back to this layer, yawn

4 rules of gambling:
1) Discipline
2) Patience
3) Never play above your bankroll
4) Know when you're beaten

Then why do so many people play roulette?griff50 wrote:It will never go all random. If it does then the decision-making will vanish from fruit machines. This is what keeps people in the game. Along with inapropriate beliefs.

Well if you want to be so pessimistic, look at it this way:
one day we'll all be dead and then it won't matter what empties were out or kept quiet will it?

so in other words then ,,,,,,,,,, there are no industry insiders reading this who could give us all a straight answer.
just you lot making assumptions lol
appreciated non-the-less
there has to be a legal reason preventing random's in the pub sector .

Little discipline = BIG issue

I think that they take less money. There was a time when a glut of random machines appeared in the casinos, but they have since dwindled away to a few dotted around, if indeed there is any per site. I can't see this happening for any reason other than the take.trayhop123 wrote:so in other words then ,,,,,,,,,, there are no industry insiders reading this who could give us all a straight answer.

"If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?"
Look at the juice cabinet whats to stop them putting 70jp pots of gold or viz or something on them,Machines will never be fully replaced but why not have 5 games on 1 cabinet rather than 1,just seems the way everything is going 10 years or so back i wouldnt have dreamed there would be these sort of things in pubs...
