Faulty quiz machine, help!!!!

I bought a jpm quiz machine (it has the six game cd rom) after playing it for one evening I have turned it on today to find that the screen is completely black with a thin line of light running across the width of the screen.
Has anyone got any ideas please on what this could be and how to fix it?
I have only had it for one day, please help!!!

Did you ever resolve this? (i know its a very old thread!) we purchased one the other day with exact same fault, traced it back to a faulty screen, pugged a normal screen into it and it works fine!

Could just be it died of old age
